Film Study: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (week15 vs HOU)

    Welcome back Diehards
This week we witnessed a good ole Chargerrrrrrring losing to the 3-11 Houston Texans. If last week was salt on the wound, this weeks film study is vinegar. Chargers potential is massive, but something is holding them back. Lets dive in

    The Good:
2nd quarter 11:22 on the clock ball on 17yrd line
Here we see run blocking executed perfectly. Starting with the right side Schofield gets penetrating and blocks LB instantly. Norton pushed the DE into the wash (almost in JJ lol) Linsley slide with the DT but stops him short. On the left side Fieler starts outside but comes back inside and gobbles up the LB. Slater seals the edge and Allen gets onto the CB swiftly. HOU FS is lost on the play and JJ goes into the endzone virtually untouched. Well designed run blocks makes it look easy.

    The Bad:
4th quarter 1:59 on the clock ball on 38yrd line.
A full on choke job not only from Cook but Herb as well. The obvious is Cook stopping his route on the play. The sublte is Herb not seeing both Allen coming open on crossing route and Palmer on post. Here i would like to see Herb pump fake Cook and those squatting DB's and hitting the open guys behind them. Slater struggled here also

    The Ugly:
4th quarter 3:38 on the clock ball on 39yrd line
Good ole Charrrrrrgers. 3 guys have Burkhead in the backfield, none make a tackle. White, Fehoko and Ogbongbemiga just awful. Gilman gets caught in wash and Samuel Jr never wanted to tackle. Watching this with the defense in film study this week would be a perfect chair throwing moment.

    Honorable Mentions:

    Hon1
We give Tillery alot of flak here on CMB, so in all fairness here he is excelling at his craft

    Hon2
The downfield blocking on the screen pass is *chefs kiss*

    Until next time Diehards
    as always
    luv ya

I KNEW it had to be Cook. Hate that guy, just hate him - he comes up lazy and dumb in critical spots way too often. This isnt the first route he stopped running to leave Herbie hanging.

cook is cooked in my eyes. TOO MANY DAMN drops and routes stopped on. Herbie should stop throwing to him and find more reliable targets to toss the rock to.

Regarding the "bad" - I'm not sure Herbert would have had the time to pump fake and then throw it elsewhere.

Anderson should be targeted more, not Cook. I cringe every damn time he is being thrown the ball. Will he fall down, fail to make the catch, or just cough the ball up? Seen enough of him. He's had a good career, but it's time to move on, starting this Sunday.

I think he did. Seems Herbert sometimes just goes to that first read when he shouldnt and should know his other pregressions better but im sure he doesnt have the offense down 100% with everyones routes and that will come. QBs get a feel for who they trust as well and Cook has screwed Herbert a few times on stopping his route and some drops.

After looking at it again, I do think he had enough time.

A new TE is a definite need for next year.

yeah i mentioned Slater struggled, but HOU ran stunt which allowed Fieler to chip the DE ever so slightly and give Slater enough time to recover
