POLL: If We Draft an OT, Who Should it Be?

Since we have addressed DT, EDGE and CB in FA, three of our biggest PON's, plus bringing back Mike Will, it looks increasingly likely we will draft an OT either at #17, or a possible trade down for picks. If so, who do you like in the first three rounds? Let's assume Ekwonu, Cross and Neal will be off the board by #17. On the other hand, do you think any of this trio fall to us? If not, this leaves Trevor Penning to us, according to a lot of mocks.

I have some concerns about Penning coming from a Sammy Small School (Northern Iowa U, enrollment only 9k). (Forrest Lamp and Western Kentucky ring a bell?) Not only that, but a lot of draftniks don't think his lateral movement is all that good...I'm afraid a speed rusher with a good spin move might make Penning look like Storm Norton...hope the Bolts do their due diligence here...no time to be taking risks with a Sammy Small Schooler from Northern Iowa U beating up on football powerhouses like Sacramento State and Dixie State...

FA. No to Penning, we already have a grabby run blocker.

I'm cool with what we have OT. I think the priority should be LS depth.

        I'm intrigued by Faalele.

If his deficiencies are correctable with coaching, he'll be an absolute mauler.

Right now I would draft a LB (Dean from Georgia) at #17 (with the options still on board expected from several mock drafts I've seen)

It will depend on who else we sign (from now to the draft)
R-OT; ILB; TE; #2 RB are still high needs (maybe even TE)

Really wish TT could do some restructuring and jugglin around so we could nab a FA Tackle before the draft.Would be awesome to just take a BPA luxury guy round 1.

There are only 3 guys in the draft who should be starting at RT this year. We're in trouble if we draft one with the intention to start one of them.

It's really why I didn't understand the FA strategy this year. The RT draft class is shallow and the FA pool is shallow. It's like all the teams who passed on QB in the draft last year. Denver got theirs, but everyone else is scrambling. This team would be much better off IMO with Justin Jones and Moses than Austin Johnson and draft RT or Kelly.

Anyway, if we have to take one, I'd pick Penning, but I would be really unhappy.

You can coach hand placement/use....hard to coach natural size, strength, athleticism, tenacity, and a glass eating mentality...best RT prospect that we have any shot at selecting, by far...but...dont know if its the best selection at 17 for us...all depends on how our staff feels about the position, the players we have, and what type of player we can get in FA or later rounds...all vs whatever other players at different positions are there, and how much we value THEM...

In a nutshell, if our staff considers upgrading RT a high priority, and Penning is there, its a slam dunk.

Final prediction: Latham OT, Colson LB, Sainristil CB, Rice WR, Zinter OG, Nourzad OC, MacLachlan TE, Vidal RB, Lovett DT

And further more, if your gonna post a poll, you shouldnt salt it with a heavy dose of your own opinion before you offer the choices....sit back, let some people participate and share their views, and then you can add your own vote and opinion...just a friendly suggestion.

I know. I'm just saying we need quality depth at that position. Long snapper is important.
