early in his career he's racking up those passing yards when we were a high scoring offense. in the latter half of his career, he's racking up those yards because the team is constantly behind by 2 TDs.

Some career stats for Rivers and where he ranks in some categories all time in the NFL:

QB rating of 96.1 - 6th highest in league history
      Career completion percentage - 64.9% - 7th highest
      TD passes - 264 - 13th highest
      Passing yards - 38.772 - 17th highest
      Pass attempts - 4,932 - 24th highest
      Pass completions - 3,203 - 16th highest
      Interceptions - 127 - 81st (despite all those passes)
Yards per pass attempt - 7.9 yard - 6th highest

Those are HOF number, and he isn't done.

Philip Rivers on pace to break NFL records for completions, yards

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is on his way to a record-setting season.

Through six games, Rivers has completed 177 of 253 passes for 2,116 yards, with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. Those are obviously good numbers, but Rivers’s sheer volume of passing production this season may actually be overlooked around the NFL: Rivers is currently on pace to break both the NFL record for completions in a season and the NFL record for yards in a season.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees set the completions record with 468 in 2011. At his current pace, Rivers will complete 472 passes this season.

Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning set the record with 5,477 yards in 2013. At his current pace, Rivers will gain 5,643 yards this season. The Chargers still have several games remaining against bad pass defenses, including the Raiders, Ravens, Bears, Dolphins and twice against the Chiefs. It’s entirely possible that Rivers can keep up his pace against that schedule.

The Chargers also have two games remaining against the NFL’s best defense, the Broncos. One of those games is in Week 17, when Rivers may be looking to break Manning’s yardage record. Perhaps Manning will offer his defense something special to keep Rivers from surpassing him in the record books. He’s done it before.

I just hope we get him there... I hope we don't try something stupid like running the ball against the Raiders. Dance w/the one your brung... WE CANT RUN, WE CANT RUN...

Those three words are FACT! Knowing this, I say, keep throwing the ball until some team proves they can stop it.

Until they go to 7 Db's, then give the run a try.

If we really get all of those offensive linemen back this week I'll go out on a limb and say our running game will magically improve.

I hope so, but I doubt it will improve to the point of being effective.

If we kick enough ass with the pass, then maybe the defense will soften enough to let us run.
