    Red Zone struggles.

We have some real issues in the redzone with this Scheem Reich is running. I doubt we give enough practice time snapping the ball in goalline offence running single back or I. Running shotgun run plays will not work vs a goal line defence and a short field is crowded with 4 WR and 4 dbs add a TE and rb a few LBrs and passing is risky.

I'm thinking we need a new OC after this season I think parts of this offence got figured last year and they are still figured out. Our running game with Oliver last year and our running game with Gordon this year. We are not doing much to help Gordon adjust and take pressure off Rivers and our oline once health will have made no progress gelling together.
    Go Rivers!

Bad OL, Need Gordon and power running game to step up. At least I think that's what the plan was at the beginning of the year....
    Prediction:
    Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

YES! Butler and Te'o can't cover RBs anyways, so what's the harm in putting Perryman in at least on running downs?

Bolts from the blue analysis - always good for a chuckle.

Rivers is more effective the more field he has.
Obviously, with the confined space in the Red Zone, especially inside the 10, he is unable to work through his progressions like he would at, say, the 40 yard line.
McCoy and Reich need to find a way to make him become more successful down there.
Did he audible any of the calls on that last 1st and goal, like he did in Washington? If so, maybe just running the play called from the sideline would help.

It's pretty clear they just don't spend enough time practicing running plays during OTAs and TC to ever get comfortable or confident they can run when needed. They short change the run game because they have Rivers and all the things he can do at LOS. They should have a couple bread and butter run plays perfected they can run no matter who is in the lineup - including the OL game to game. I never bought the idea you don't need a true FB, and they've wasted the signing of David Johnson.

At this point I'm thinking back to LT's rookie season and early career when he had crap OLs, but they fed him 25-35 times a game and let his natural talent do the rest. Need to do the same with Gorgon!

When you can't run the ball you will struggle in the redzone

The reason we did that in LTs rookie season was because he had no other talent surrounding him on offense. The best player on our offense is Rivers. If we can't run block, why take the ball out of our best players hand and force something that isn't working?

This isn't news this is the same old stuff

Last time we were effective in the red zone goes back to when we had LT. The reason we are ineffective goes to personnel and philosophy.

Back in the day when we were inside the 5 or near the goal line with LT we had 3 options when he ran plus we had a fullback Lorenzo Neal
1.he could bust through off the guard
                      2. sweep around the end
                      3. leap over the top

So back then even if it was a run, you couldn't anticipate it just coming up the middle like we been doing

Currently when we are inside the 5 or near the goal line we are just predictable.
                      1. If Gordon is in, big if, it is pretty predictable it is a run
                      2. If Woody is in we are predictable it is going to be a quick run hit up the middle or swing pass we even did this when we had Sproles
                      3. We don't throw the fade like we use to, only person we don't have from days past is Vincent Jackson, when we would throw it. Gates and Floyd have done this in the past and Keenan Allen is more than athletic enough to jump and go get it.
                      4. We try to get to cute and fake our opponent out.

Because we have 9 seasons of proof Rivers isn't leading us to the Super Bowl being our"best offensive player" is why. We've been a 1 dimensional finesse pass 1st team since 2008 and it's proved not to be the formula to win it all, and we are regressing back to the time our super star RB had to carry the team to victory most the time.
