Not everything in NO is his fault. They have been rebuilding their offense at the same time lacking the sort of players to make his scheme work well. He is also a poor fit in NO, because they keep putting his D in horrible game situations and don't do anything to cover up for any of the weaknesses.

That being said, I wouldn't hire him. He has a reputation of running a very complex D, and not simplifying things even when the players make a lot of mental mistakes. He has never coached a top D, but has gotten his reputation because he usually had defenses that overachieved to a certain degree and could keep the team competitive, even when the offenses sucked. He's not a horrible coach, I just don't think he is a good fit for us.

what's up with this guy. Used to have a great rep as a DC, but sure seems to move around a lot and get canned. Better option than another year of Pagano? maybe hire him as a "consultant" rest of the year and see how things play out with potential Coordinator changes after this season?

Wait... I thought the plan was to hire Pagano to replace Nolan Jr when Pagano is fired, so that when Nolan Jr replaces Pagano and Junior gets fired later, Spanos Jr can tell Spanos & Spanos to replace Nolan Jr with Pagano?
That way if Pagano tries to hire Pagano, Spanos Jr can still tell Spanos & Spanos to fire Pagano for trying to hire Pagano.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Nolan is so great. He has had a couple different defenses ranked really high, but he has also had a couple of defenses ranked really low (last year Atlanta). I don't think he's awful, just think he is probably worn out at this point.

Having Nolan run the defense with Rob Ryan as an assistant doesn't really sound too appealing to me. Therefore, that will probably be the move that will be made after they scapegoat Pags and Reich for McCoy.
