How can you say that? Dude leads the league in fumbles and ranks 18th with only 155 carries. Malcolm Floyd ended a streak of his entire career (of 116 games) today with his first ever fumble. I get that we're trying to see what we've got with Gordon, but 1) we're not learning anything about him while he's running behind this defensive line (yes, defensive, because they seem like they are out to stop him), 2) this experience isn't helping him grow as a player, 3) him learning not to put the ball on the ground is the most important thing he can learn right now wrt his career.

Besides, it's nice to see McCoy (finally) hold people accountable. Too late and too much of a pussy to do anything about Gates, though.

Yep, that was terrible and an example of what's wrong with the league now. What's the defender supposed to do?

That was a winnable game. All it would have taken was some reasonably competent play from the Chargers. Poor ball security, stupid penalties, poor game management and some pretty bullshit calls by the refs.

Take the Rivers pick six away and that's a game you're in right up to the end.

Defense actually played a sort of credible game. That first drive was ridiculous. But after that they showed me a little something.

Let's be real - the ONLY thing the Broncos offense had to do was to not lose the game. The sad reality was that once we were down by 14 the game was over. The penalties on the oline were simply the result of the very large talent discrepancy in talent between who they had on the field on defense and who we had on offense. We have had poor game management and ball security issues all year - no reason to think those go away against the best defense in the league.

Had Weddle made that easy pick, he could have gone for six. Well, maybe had his slow ass pitched it to another DB but that is a play a player of his caliber has to make. That could have turned the game around.

            Seeya Weddle.

I don't disagree with much of this. But Denver didn't play much of a game after that first drive. Osweiler wasn't too impressive. Their D wasn't very impressive, either.

Yeah, but he didn't - the story of our entire defense for years now. They just don't make many game changing plays.

Understanding Weddle is kind of tough. He's supposed to have great hands, but he seems to suffer from "DB-itis" - the inexplicable inability of a defender to catch a football. Every defender in any league (from city flag football leagues, to pee wee leagues) suffers from this disease - even the ones that play both ways and make great catches as WRs.
                  Prediction:
                  Correct: Chargers CI fails miserably.
Fail: Team stays in San Diego until their lease runs out in 2020. (without getting new deal done by then) .
Sig Bet WIN: The Chargers will file for relocation on January 15.

SAN DIEGO -- A look at San Diego Chargers players who were “up” and those who were “down” in Sunday’s 17-3 loss to the Denver Broncos:

                    UP

Jason Verrett: The second-year pro out of TCU corralled his second interception of the season on a fade route thrown by Brock Osweiler intended for Emmanuel Sanders, saving a touchdown. Verrett finished with four combined tackles and a pass breakup.

Melvin Ingram: He finished with seven combined tackles and notched his fifth sack this season.

Denzel Perryman: The rookie linebacker had another solid performance, leading the Chargers with 10 combined tackles.

                    DOWN

Orlando Franklin: San Diego’s top free-agent signing, Franklin was called for holding and allowed pressure up the middle that led to Philip Rivers throwing a 25-yard interception that was returned for a score by Denver linebacker Danny Trevathan in the first half.

Melvin Gordon: The rookie out of Wisconsin fumbled twice, losing one for the fourth time this season. However, San Diego’s defense has not allowed any points off of the turnovers. Gordon did not play in the fourth quarter, finishing with 55 yards on 12 carries, including a long of 21 yards.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.

He's not learning anything by being benched either. This season is lost anyway. Sitting him for a series or two I can see, but they need to build this kid up. Is there anything being done in practice to help him? This guy is being buried here, a number 1 pick being wrongly utilized and wrongly coached, something needs to be done to fix him. I don't think McCoy is up to the task.

Anyone remember that time Junior got a roughing the passer penalty on Boomer Esiason against the Jets? Might have been that '94 season, for some reason it's burned into my memory. Junior literally tapped the top of Boomer's helmet with his index finger and got the penalty. It was explained that any contact with the helmet will warrant a flag. Which is ridiculous. Seems that things like force and intent, might, ya know, play a factor.
