The 1st half went a lot like I expected. 2nd, not as much. Close but not enough. The whiners were beatable - by the Chargers team that started the game.

Who was the announcer that went on and on and on about how Herbert was a RB when he was struck helmet to helmet and the 9er was ejected? Like that blow on a RB is to be expected - nothing out if the ordinary. Like the NFL was trying to protect an elite young QB and should not?
I thought it was a quality decision. Let defenders know that the league is serious about reducing brain injury.
Anyway the A-Hole ran his mouth about his opinion of the ejection forever while a primetime football game was in play.
Major dereliction of duty on his part. Let's talk about the game - not your effing opinions of the rules. I had to shut the sound off.

bit of a depressing game.... didn't get to listen to the fourth quarter, but some lasting impressions listening to Money & DJ.
the latter constantly remarking that we had shots open if we threw the ball on first down, and that that was the down when we got the touchdown to Carter.... on first down.
w/Money remarking that they've got eight men in the box again, and.... we hand it off to Spiller or Ek, for.... nothin' (an all too common refrain)
did like to hear Fehoko's name a time or two inside, and ditto for J Day, as NMC was right.... they gashed Van Noy's side of the line repeatedly.... another personnel decision, not unlike sticking w/Stick 'n Chase @QB, and when we coulda kept Jamal Davis @ED who was better @run D/sealing the edge.
didn't card for DJ's thought that he'd just feed Ek for the rest of the way, on one particular drive.... that is the kryptonite of this scheme/play calling.... we need an RB1, and we need to spread the ball around.... case in point:
they throw the ball to Rodgers for a 4/5 yard gain when we need 9/10 yards.... who is that thinks Rodgers can't run the 10+ yards or so.
add in the notion that we can't protect long enough for an intermediate/longball downfield.... how long does it take a 4.5 NFL wideout to run 20 yards.... less than the 2.4 seconds it takes Herbert to get the ball out.
tenuous situation/slippery slope for Lombarley me thinx.... and again, not so much football savant enough to say w/much if any certainty, and.... the gut is whispering that 'tis the scheme/coaching ??
* which includes personnel decisons btw.... (have never liked the idea of the HC making personnel decisions, and given that we have a GM that recedes/absolves himself of decision making responsibility.... deferring to our DFO/Director of Football Ops and his HC)
ps. another winnable game.... Chiefs game included.ED Matayo Uiagalelei, DT Dontay Corleone, OC Iapani Laloulu, CB Domani Jackson, OG Earnest Greene III, WR J Michael Sturdivant, LB Eric Gentry
TE Jelani Woods, LB Isaiah Simmons, TE Cade Otton, RB Kyren Williams, P Matt Araiza

looking over the stats, the coupla few things that jump out @me, are that we went to Palmer/Ekeler more oft than ideal, as SF was surely ready for the two of 'em, and....
woulda got the ball to Carter and Spiller (thought he played/got a handoff or two ?) a bit (lot) more.
biggest diff is that both Garoppolo and the SF secondary outplayed JH10 and our defensive secondary.... was the pass rush/Oline the diff there ??
if I had a guess, it's that they didn't play Reeder much in the second half after he gave up that long reception.... bfd.... we didn't get to Jimmy G. that play and he had no safety help is usually the situation, and.... our run D was much better w/him in there than without.... again, what I'd surmise ??
and we didn't take our chances w/Carter on intermediate longer routes.... not to mention perhaps a longer one to Austin (losing Everett hurts.... just not so many targets left out there for JH).
tough spot going forward.... Philip had gotten us over similar humps in the past.... can JH and Lombarley do the same.... as of now and from what I've seen to date, do think the odds are against 'em.ED Matayo Uiagalelei, DT Dontay Corleone, OC Iapani Laloulu, CB Domani Jackson, OG Earnest Greene III, WR J Michael Sturdivant, LB Eric Gentry

That last player still lowered his helmet at the last second and it was a helmet to helmet contact. These guys can lead with their shoulders if they want to do that to stop the runner.

Despite everything going on with our offense and rushing defense IMO the football game was really lost on 3rd down defense. S.F. was 5 for 8 on 3rd & long and the dagger was the big 3rd down completion they made vs the zero blitz right before their TD in the 4th quarter. This defense has to figure out a way to get off the field on 3rd and long, because those opportunities don't come very often as bad as their rushing defense is. I think Bryce Callahan is our best man coverage corner. I'd strongly consider moving him outside & letting him play press man.

He has not seen any penalty on this play and was surprised that 49er was ejected.

We started 3 rookie OL.They started their vets.
Our DL was decimated.
I'd say the lines made the most difference but being down our best WRs / TEs/ RB2 was a close second.
