Titans @ Chargers Pre Game Thread | (Wk 15)

Have you watched the Titans play? I've seen those stats as well and they just don't do justice to what that defense is like when actually watching the games. I went back and watched them vs Jacksonsville last week and yeah they lost but that game was a physical bloodbath. The Titans always have a stretch every season where they lose to bad teams but Vrabel always gets things turned around.

I live in Nashville, so that would be yes. They are a physical team, but they are not the same team as last year or even what they were earlier in the year. I have a healthy respect for Vrabel but this is a game we win if we can even somewhat slow Henry down - not an east task given our run D.

Chargers just need to win. Not going to worry about NE today. Only 3 teams are eliminated in the entire league as of now. the picture of the true finalists should be clear around Christmas.

Can Coach Staley devise a game plan on defense to defeat the best rushing attack the Chargers will face this season? Nobody rushes the ball between the tackles like the Titans. How do you call a game like this? Single and double A-gap blitzes by linebackers on first and second downs will keep the center and guards from getting into their assignments, and it forces them to protect their gaps. Kenneth and Drue are perfect for this assignment. YMMV.

They're gonna run the ball the key is stop the explosives and hold them to 4 to 5 yard runs and not 40 yard runs. You can't really over-commit vs the run that's exactly what they want & Tannehill will torch the secondary off play action if that happens. I would play a lot of 2 deep safety this week to stop the run. Stop the run? Yes. Henry is going to have some runs where he gets through the 2nd level would you rather have 1 guy or 2 guys deep to tackle him? When that happens you can hopefully hold him to 10 or 15 instead of 40 or 60. Then up front on the line you have to try to clog lanes and make Henry shuffle his feet laterally. The 2 deep also will allow the corners to play inside out, which is what the Titans thrive off of. Most of their passing game is in-breaking stuff off play action with an occasional vertical shot, and you'll have all that covered. So lots of 6-1-4 or 5-2-4.

Apparently the Titans' run blocking is actually quite poor, its really just the singular talent of Henry that drives their running game. If Treylon Burks is still out that offense becomes extremely one-dimensional, its basically all on Henry. Tannehill is solid but he's been very much a game manager this season. If we can get out to a lead on these guys I really like our chances.

I wouldn't underestimate their passing attack. Okwonko at tight end is really really good and the league really doesn't know about him yet. He's kinda like Darren Waller really fast for a tight end. They have Robert Woods back and he's pretty good. Westbrook-Ikhine is their Jaylen Guyton. And Treylon Burks is an ascending young receiver with all the traits to be a legit #1.

I agree they are a rushing team and we need to manage the rush, not necessarily stop it completely. but I think some of the acclaim is based on reputation and not 2022 performance. They are not as good this year. Bigger key is just our offense scoring points and not being behind where they can grind out a low scoring win.

Derrick Henry is a load. Josh Jaconbs is leading the league this year but Henry is second and Nick Chubb third. We will have played against all 3 by Sunday. We didn't stop Jacobs or Chubb so I'm not counting on stopping Henry but I am thinking we can win
