Welcome back diehards. Are you still smiling? I am. We got to witness the complete smothering of MIA offense, the high powered offense that has been shredding the NFL for weeks. So many solid plays, not many flashy big highlight plays but just solid fundamental defense. I struggled to choose great defense plays that standout from the rest of the good defensive plays. On Offense is was easier and I took the easy route. I do have something special lined up as bonus, something we have all been secretly wanting to see even if we didnt know we wanted to see it.
The Good:
3rd quarter 5:53 on the clock, 2nd and 5 ball on 30yrd line.
Chargers align in 3x1 formation. Play action to Kelley gets the defense sliding left and Everett's blocking the DE with the flow allowing Herb to rollout and look deep. The MIA safety did not think Herb could hit MDub across the field and he paid the price. Herb showing his monster arm and ribs must be feeling good too. Mdub with superb ball tracking and catch. Amazing what star players can do
The Bad:
2nd quarter 1:17 on the clock, 1st and goal ball on 10yrd line.
This play comes after Herb has put on a clinic of pocket presence and drove down the field.
MIA defense bring 6 on pass rush. Herb doesnt see it. Sarrell takes inside LB leaving Edge free who gets home faster than Herb can throw. Would prefer either Ekeler chip the Edge or Sarell take him and Zion pickup the blitz LB inside. Hate seeing QB + LG + LT all laying on ground together.
The Great:
2nd quarter 9:57 on the clock, 2nd and 8 ball on 10yrd line
The blockbuster play! Herb under center with play action to Kelley gets the MLB going left and Herb rolls out with MDub on the crossing route. Notice Herb has Palmer open early for the difficult TD throw, but he runs and buys some time knowing MDub has dusted the MLB and is coming open deep in endzone. Times it perfect and throws the touch pass over the defenders head and where MDub is the only guy who can catch it and what a catch it was, the cherry on top. Chefs kiss
Honorable Mentions:
Hon1
Herb to Allen finger pointing
Better version:
Hon2
The defense best game 2022. I could not single out plays as they were abundant. Instead I choose these 2 back to back to kill the MIA offense. K9 and Tranq have both taken a huge step forward in this defensive scheme and each week we will see more plays like this:
Now...drumroll... the bonus content.
The Chargers have attitude. I dont mean swagger and flexing on opponents (as fun as it is to see), I mean agressive mean "i want to hurt you" attitude.
Here is 6 plays that showcase the attitude Brandon Staley has coached into this team:
Attitude1
Everett and Allen
Attitude2
Raheem Layne (R) #41
Attitude3
Kemon Hall #37 punt coverage. This play actually drew a flag that backed MIA up 15 yards.
Attitude4
Horvath, Fieler, Ekeler punish the defenders
Attitude5
Rumph punishes the LT while Fox punishes Tua
Attitude6
Everett blocking for Ekeler on this punishing run
I'm telling you diehards now, The fire is lit. This team is about to get hot.
As always
luv ya
