Film Study: The Good, The Bad and The Great (week16 vs IND)

    PLAYOFFS

doesnt it feel good? been a while since ive used this one:
    yvutZaj.jpg

    oh yeah!!!!

This week we were treated to an almost perfect defensive game. So good that it was dominating all the flashy plays i recorded. We had screens blownup, sacks, roving zone/man coverage, an INT buffet and even a 4th down stuffed. When the players execute its a beautiful thing. I did peep a little nugget of playcalling brilliance on offense, heres to more of it.

    The Good:
4th quarter 8:51 on the clock, 2nd and 4 ball on 17yrd line
This drive started on Chargers 11 yard line. After 7 run plays and 3 pass this was the 8th running play. Check the double motion pre-snap: Both Allen and Stone Smartt motion right causing visible confusion on the LBers only to then run it right into the gap created by the pre-snap motion. Ekeler being a stud breaking tackles and i still reckon he got the TD (next play he dive in ez so its moot).

    The Bad (The Ugly)
2nd quarter 5:25 on the clock, 2nd and 2 ball on 46yrd line
    Ugly play Derwin

    The Great:
1st quarter 5:44 on the clock, 2nd and 5 ball on 35yrd line
Tranquil diagnoses the play and directs Mack wide who blocks the vision of Foles, both KVN and Murray also diagnose the screen to the opposite side and blow it up. Perfect defensive play

    Honorable Mentions:
    It was an INT buffet

    Hon1
    Mike Davis roving zone

    Hon2
    Derwin being Derwin

    Hon3
    ASJ rolling zone coverage

    Bonus content:
Mack on the sack while Tranq takes away the hot read

Peep Gillman and Tranq on the 4th down stuffed

    Thankyou Chargers
    as always
    luv ya

On Mike Davis' INT, he was ONE block away from being able to turn the corner and streak down the sideline. It was *that* close to being a 90 yard Pick 6.

On Asante Samuel's pick, he made a beautiful read, peeling off his man and onto the ball. But I also appreciate the smarts he shows while returning the pick-- He sprints laterally, stringing out his pursuit while looking for an upfield lane that doesn't materialize. When it was clear that there was nothing to be had, Asante stepped out of bounds without taking a hit.

As always, a big thanks for the vids, NMC!

      Thanks Chillies.
I like the way the team defense is coming together.
The Fehoko-Murray combo is giving us good football.
Although K9 is good for about one easy pick dropped per game. LOL.

Fehoko gets underneath the center and Davison stands up the guard on that 4th and 1 stop. Guys are firing off the line and making plays. TT found some nice players in Fehoko, Davison, and Hinton to replace injured IDL.

The secondary is understanding how Staley likes to disguise his coverages. They are starting to rotate much better. Van Noy is now lining up as a ILB and blitzing from there. Players are learning... coaches are learning/adjusting to their players. Just in time for the playoffs... and Bosa's return.

If we can control the ball on offense and play solid defense... anything can happen.

            Scheme specific depth is building.
Players can do what they are good at.
There will be some serious trickle down.
            Joey is gonna kill it.
            KVN. Even Rumph.

Thanks as always NMC. You had a lot to choose from this week. I particularly liked the blown up screen and 4th and 1 stuff. Happy for Fehoko to get his chance and perform and same for Alohi who has really come on. But KVN has become one of my favorite defensive players. What he has done off the field by organizing the players only meetings has translated to high level play from him on the field. I was happy when they picked him up and now he’s delivering

                This is everything.
KVN teaching us NE-type player accountability to each other.

Great job as usual NMC's. Really good this week. I like all the comments in here also. I think the defense is going to get even better. There are a few happy surprises in defensive players all of a sudden and that makes us very dangerous.

                    I'm excited.
                    Craig.

Thanks for the idea of putting that play on full screen. I did that and boy our guys were playing with energy. Gilman was a maniac.

                        Best thread ever.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
