The Chargers are flirting with elite pass D. Taking the "chunk" plays allowed out of run D, getting more takeaways is the goal.
Being an active coaching participant in a top 5 or better D coaching staff won't hurt his resume.
Pretty sure Staley believes in himself & his system and sold Howard on joining him to create an NFL top D.
