Really? If you're relying on your Kicker to win you games, you're in the wrong business.Life is too short to drink cheap beer

Davidson has had some good season in the past. This year they gave up a lot of sacks and hurries because
1). Norv's O.
2). Bridgewater likes to hold the ball sometimes trying to make plays and takes hits and sacks because of it
3). They had the same sort of injury thing we did so guys like Mike Harris started a 16 games.
4). John Sullivan was on IR, and he is the guy who makes the line calls for the Vikings, really handicapping them when teams shift and jump around prior to the snap.
5). Tony Sparano is an obvious upgrade for them.
Davidson is known for his work in the running game more than as a master of pass protection. I think it is an OK signing, we can definitely use his expertise. But you can't help but wonder why we can't get someone better, like Sparano, Bill Calahan or Mike Tice.

Part of it is coaches want coaches who are all on the same page in terms of philosphy, which obviously was a problem. Coach D and Dee's both favored size over skill, while Davidson is more of a skills over size type. He is certainly a good coach, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did in the NFL and been a coordinator if he wasn't. And most fans wouldn't have the slightest clue what makes a good OL coach even if they knew anything about OL. HE should be OK. I will be as interested in seeing who we sign to be the assistant OL coach as his assistant.
Smith is a pretty good signing for the DL coach. He is not one of these big first step guys. He was responsible for getting several Bills guys to develop when he was in Buffalo, and has done a solid job in Tenn, even though their DL is more of a classic 34. He is not one of these guys who lets his players blow past blockers, but wants them to fight through the blocks and maintain position, something sorely lacking under Johnson.
