Keenan is built to play WR.
huge mitts, thick lower body, powerful, graceful, intelligent.
    One of a kind.

Plus, these are traits that WRs who have long productive careers well into their 30s possess.

It doesn't matter how well he runs routes, how big his wingspan is, or how fast he is, if he's dropping balls in camp he is not going to earn Herbert's trust. The quality of the hands is sometimes overlooked on WRs that have so many other attributes going for them. The hands don't have to be huge although size of hand helps but they need to be soft when it comes to catching the ball, strong when catching contested passes and for securing the ball when being stripped of the ball.

I've not had the opportunity to go to camp this summer but I read somewhere that QJ has been dropping passes, I'm not certain if it was a post here or something someone posted on twitter but if it's true then it's going to impact his involvement this season.
There will be no QB / QJ comfort if Q is dropping the ball. We'll see.

Drops are part of a WR growing pains. If he does have a bit of the dropsies as a rook, they should keep going right back to him to demonstrate their faith in him.

Keenan Allen reminds me of Keenan McCardell, who had some of his best seasons after 30. Allen is 31 this season. McCardell in his age 33 year had 1174 yds receiving and 8 TDs. And that was with 35 year old Brad Johnson and his 62 percent completion percentage. In his age 35 year with the Chargers he had 917 yds and 9 TDs with Brees as his QB.

KA had 1138 yds receiving in 2021 when he played 16 games. With the WR room stacked with the talent now, I don't know how many targets KA will get this season. But IMO he's still going to be the best, most consistent, most reliably open WR on the team until he's not and I'm in no hurry to move on from him like some others here.

I agree. And I think of all the highly paid Chargers, Keenan is the most likely to do something to stay on the team and help the cap. I can also see Mack doing same. Veteran leadership is priceless. Listen to Palmer talk about Keenan and all the players respect Mack and he is the one who organized and pays for team dinners.

I really hope so. My brain agrees with you and those who expect his game to translate as an older WR.
I can't escape this feeling of his skills falling off a cliff soon.

It would be incredible if Telesco and Ed McGuire can find a way to keep both he and Mike but I'm afraid the drafting of Q is the writing on the wall many of us don't want to read.

Yes, I have heard Palmer talk about how much Keenan has helped him. And you know he is going to do the same for QJ. It can't be stated enough how valuable that veteran leadership is for the team, and for the WR position. As for KA and Mack taking team-friendly deals to stay with the Chargers, I'd love to see it, but that remains to be seen I guess. If the Chargers win the Super Bowl with this young nucleus of the team primed and poised to compete for more Lombardis, it would be more of an incentive for these guys to want to continue to be a part of it.

Yep to all of this. I can see he’s lost a step. He had an extra 4 in his prime, so he has more room left.

I hope we can preserve KA during the course of the season from having to bail us out. Can only be done if Moore's offense is efficient enough to spread out TDs. Same goes for Eckler. Havinga fresh KA and Eckler for a SB push would be nice.

It would be good if we can build in some light weeks for key starters. Spread them out. Give the depth more work when all, O, D, STs are doing well
Overall team depth looks like they can play.

That's were guys like Palmer are going to become invaluable. Give the vet starters a breather whilst stepping on the pedal on opposing defenses. 28 points per game will win us 10+ games.
