Dude, you said “inferior” which is a long way from who was favored. In any case, I don’t have to defend Fouts. He’s in the HOF. That’s not a popularity contest.
as for whether he’s an asshole, I have no opinion and don’t care. But those in glass houses….
Thats literally how we decide which team is inferior vs superior, we make bets.
He was very fortunate. So we agree he took 6 years to become a good player, yet he lacked the graciousness to not criticize a rookie for a drop in his first PS game. Check. My point is now clear. We can drop the Fouts saga, he played many a great game for us and then he choked eventually against an inferior team in every playoffs he got them to from ‘79 - ‘83. It was all for nada, yet the win-every-game-or-die crowd that so loudly chirps here every day is oddly forgiving of just him. His playoff game QB records are out there for all to find, I looked at them while researching what an asshole he is.
I remember the last game played in 1981 but I had to look up his stats for exact numbers - 15-28 for 185, 2 INT, 56 QB rating. Kenny Anderson had a 117 QB rating that same day on that same field.
Fouts also played when there was no social media or nearly as much coverage. You have to factor that in when you say people are "oddly forgiving of him."
That’s how gamblers and bookies make money. We don’t decide jack
ok - if you’re gonna be pedantic about evaluating teams vs evaluating the odds of teams winning as if those two things are not correlated, this is gonna be a bore. You are right we don’t decide which team is inferior and there is no measurement scale or tool. So how did you decide I am wrong lol? It’s my opinion that those Charger teams were superior and choked in the playoffs. a LOT of us thought that then and still do now. It was the genesis of “chargering” theory thats been debated here all off season. If you think I’m wrong, so what - good for you.
But fyi don’t throw that mental disability slur around. As a parent of a child diagnosed on the spectrum (now outgrown, praise God) who knows children who face significant and ongoing challenges, just FYI - we take offense at that word. It’s 2023, we voted as a society and decided that word is not cool. Just an FYI, you can always tell me to Go F myself and I’m a A-hole, thats still acceptable.
As to Fouts - I apologize for insulting our beloved Fouts. He was the greatest player to ever wear a bolt, he was and is infallible and unquestionable. His every analytical opinion is gospel because of his run of 5 great seasons as our QB. I am sorry I questioned when he was trashing a rooking in his first PS game when he himself couldnt do shit right on the football field until his 6th season. I’ll not raise his name again and I just hope for forgiveness. Someday.

Bygones. I am sorry, Dan. My point was never that important.
No worries. I really just didn’t like him slapping QJ. I didn’t need to build a legal case about my opinion on that lol.- i get bored in off-season. Bygones
First 5 years... nothing special. To be fair, those teams were bad. In 1975, the defense got good (Dean, Fletcher, Johnson). That was the year I joined up as a fan. They were 2-12. I don't remember Fouts at all!
Coryell comes to town... and Fouts becomes the premier QB in the league. Maybe he was the perfect QB for Air Coreyell. Dude wore a cap that read MFIC (Mother Fucker In Charge). I heard he was an asshole. Maybe we needed an asshole. Broadcasters don't need to be assholes. Their jobs are to analyze and critique. I have no problem with Fouts criticizing dropped passes. I have no problem with people pointing out that Fouts sucked... before he didn't.
Anyone wanting to criticize a WR that drops passes... fine. Anyone who doesn't realize all WR's drop passes... mentally challenged.

Sorry about the slur. It's actually a reference from "Tropic Thunder" which is a film that I guess wouldn't get made today. No offense meant.
QJ has yet to prove to me he was worth the Chargers 1st pick. Yes, even Jerry Rice had more than a couple of drops his first year in the pro’s, but he didn’t have that knock on him in college, QJ did. Here’s hoping his ball catching improves. I’m not wanting to see where he see-saws thru his career in a redemption kinda way. That is, he performs lousy on some plays, then redeems himself, on a regular basis. That kind of talent and value is somewhat perturbing. Seen it before. We shall see.
