TT seems to have changed his draft strategy last year and said he was going after hard hitting, hard nosed and tough players.
"Hammers" as he likes to call them. He seems to have gotten a definite one in Denzel Perryman. Most of his other picks last
year seem to have fit this mold as well, atleast, on the surface.
Here are the top 5 picks from last year along with my comments:
1 15 Melvin Gordon RB Wisconsin : tough hard nosed runner but based on where he was selected, under performed but I think mostly due to a bad line and and a very bad offensive coordinator.
2 48 Denzel Perryman LB Miami (FL): Showed great tackling form and signs of nastiness which is great for a LB.
3 83 Craig Mager CB Texas St : Projected as a great tackler, although limited in action, I did like what I saw
4 None —
5 153 Kyle Emanuel DE North Dakota St: For a 5th round pick, I think he has a lot of future potential. Good pick for a 5th rounder. Still raw and needs a lot of work though but the potential is there.
6 192 Darius Philon DT Arkansas: This was the steal of our draft, showed great potential, tough and balanced and showed he can get to the quarterback in his limited action as a DL.
Overall I liked last years draft as a whole although our first round pick still has a lot to prove, the rest of the draft was solid.
That being said, we see a pattern here, there is a "type" of player now that TT will most likely select as his pick if they are
available. Who are are these guys in this draft? Based on this, we are selecting Bosa at #3 if he's available. Anyone else you
guys see that fits this mold throughout the draft? Could be offensive or defensive players. Let's hear more about them.
