Duggan has a chance to be better than Stick sooner than later. Stick came from Sammy small school and hasn't done much here.

I'm not high on Duggan but he played in a much tougher conference and given some time, Stick could be gone after this year and Duggan will compete with someone else in 2024 for the backup job.

I seen Duggan do that segment with Steve Mariucci that he runs them thru and he is smart and passed the Mariucci test well.

But he looked bad under pressure against Georgia who as we know had NFL caliber defensive players.

Focus on this topic should be on Duggan, not McFadden.

I moved the thread hijack to the Draft thread https://www.thepowderblues.com/forum...ly-links-in-op

he should be the 2nd string. the idea is to have a backup QB who can actually come in and play competitively if their number is called, not just hand the ball off and accept the loss.

So I guess we can expect Max Duggan to be Brock Purdy if Herbert goes down?

The problem with that is we don't have a running game to support a quarterback such as Brock Purdy.

Here is what Telesco said about Duggan after they drafted him

On drafting TCU QB Max Duggan in the seventh round:

"Down there at that point in the draft, the seventh round, we thought he had some traits to work with. Dual-threat quarterback, tough, strong, physical, fast. Not typically the first four traits you say for a quarterback but he has them at such a high level, and really good arm strength. He has some skills to work with, so give him a chance to come in and compete. To see him play through the course of his career, he has that toughness that is hard to find. We'll take it and go from there."

              Really Tom?

He has the character that Telesco and Staley likes. He seems to be someone who accepts his role, and will help other players out whether it's sitting on the bench or playing on the field.

Duggan floats a lot of balls which will get him killed in the NFL.

He does that because he doesn't have much of an arm.

                He's a very good college qb: best rb on TCU - as someone once said;
his size, lack of arm strength and accuracy will not be conducive to a long NFL career.

If he's very bright, then maybe he has a shot.
How many years has Stick been around? Since the time of Rivers? His game isn't anything to write home about either. In all these years I haven't seen stick evolve beyond being a check-down QB. His decision making is terrible. He hasn't gotten any better. The preseason games last year showed it.

The floating the ball thing can be corrected, it's coachable. The QB coach can help Duggan to improve his weakness and has to teach him things that will make him operate better. Duggan does seem like a bright person and likes to learn. Herbert and Moore are just the people for him to learn from.

I guess everyone is going to have different views of what good arm strength is.

My guess is comfortably pass for 30 yards. Not everyone has a 60 yard canon.

If Duggan comes in and wins even one or two games if JH get a brief injury, the pick just paid off. I scratched my head at first when the pick was announced, but I thought about it more, and I was at the 49er game last year when our backup was inept. I come on this board to talk analytically without other fans, not to necessarily high five or complain about what the team does. I am trying to add my analysis and thoughts on the pick. if you want to hate the pick, have at it.

From chargers.com 5 things about Duggan.

                        1. Heisman Finalist

Max Duggan capped off his career at TCU with a season to remember.

The four-year starter made history leading the Horned Frogs to their first College Football Playoff appearance. In 15 games he lit up the stat sheet, as he was responsible for 4,054 total yards and 41 total touchdowns.

His stellar campaign earned him a spot as a Heisman Trophy finalist, TCU's first since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2000. Duggan finished second in the race.

Well shit fellas….did anyone know this? Apparently he had a lot more noticed about him to be 2nd place much less on the list to begin with. Im willing to give the guy his opportunity and frankly we needed another camp qb and maybe this kid can be coached up.

Duggan has to beat out Stick first to come in for Herbert.
