He wasn't a bad player, but he didn't live up to being the fifth overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. Never voted All-Pro. Never even made a Pro Bowl.

Ed Reed went 22nd in that draft. The whole time I was wondering how that was happening. He was unbelievable during his last season at Miami.

Yeah, he was going through a divorce in 2011 and he was in a fog. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...n02-story.html

He bounced back in 2012 though. 2013 was his last season.

The worst thing I remember about him was letting Ricochet Caldwell beat him for a long completion in the Jan 2007 playoff game against the Patriots.

I don’t think it was a joke, i think it was strategy and happened. He unfairly got more BS false PI calls than any corner I’ve ever seen. He was a great lockdown corner and a tackling machine too. Never got the cred i thought he deserved.

He started his career a little slowly, but he had some amazing seasons once he settled in. He was really good once he got going. I would say he was like the Vincent Jackson of CBs. Physically gifted, but it took him a little while to figure it out at the NFL level and then was a legit number one at his position on good teams, but was never a HOF type.

"Jammer to Safety" was the longest-living thread ever created in the old Chargers message board (CMB). whenever i see his name, i think of that thread.

Yes, he was very good. He adjusted to the rules (that were not applied fairly, as teams like Miami routinely got away with being very handsy during his era).

Sadly, this is always what I think of when Jammer is mentioned. Just another in a long line of random plays that went against us that day...
