    OT: TPB 53-man (or more) roster

    Since we're in a slow period again, I had an interesting idea that might be kind of fun.

    Some of us TPBers have at least a little experience playing football at some level, whether it be high school, college, or maybe even the pros. There have been some stories shared in past threads, which was very cool.

    But, what if we took it a step further (just for kicks) and come up with The Powder Blues 53-man roster?

    Post below what position you played and at what level. If you played more than one position, give your primary position. Only one position per poster, so choose wisely. It might be kind of cool to see what a TPB-filled football team might look like if we were to all take the field together (in our athletic prime, of course).

    Just because someone else is listed at your position, still go ahead and post it. This isn't a depth-chart (at least not yet).

    I'll update the original post (alphabetically) with the info below.

    Here we go...

    I did play both offense and defense in high school. I was the second-string RT on offense, but more importantly, I was the starting strong-side DT in a 4-4-3 defense. So LDT would be my primary position.

    Offense

    QB = Fouts Fan

    RB = JupiterBolt
    FB/H-Back =

    WR = 21&500, Heatmeiser
    TE = NoMoreChillies

    LT =
    LG = Utah Bolt
    C =
    RG =
    RT =

    There are lots of different possibilities on defense, so I will list them all just in case. Let me know if I forget any. We can figure out our defensive formation after we have everybody. Scheme to the players' strengths, right?

    Defense

    LDE (strong side) =
    LDT (strong side) = Blue Thunder
    NT =
    RDT (weak side) =
    RDE (weak side) = Sonora Jim

    LOLB (Sam in 4-3 / Jack in 3-4) = Chargeroo, Wu-Dai Clan
    LILB (Sam in 3-4) =
    MLB (Mike in 4-3) = DMac Bolt
    RILB = (Mike in 3-4)=
    ROLB (Will in 4-3 and Will in 3-4) = Supercharged

    LCB = Boltnut, Maniaque 6
    RCB = Boltjolt, Velo
    SS =
    FS = Lefty2SLO, Pigskin
    Nickel =
    Dime =

    I nominate Dmac for QB, since he has some insightful takes. I also nominate Wood for one of the LB spots, with the green dot, since he has called for us to play "Modern Football" on D...

      This isn't a nomination thing. This is based on football-playing experience.

      The nomination thing might be fun also, but it's not what I'm looking for here.

            Being an old man, I played back in the day when passes were infrequent. I played LB in a 5/3 defense. It's likely that most have seen that defense. I played the game because I loved the contact. I played in HS, the USMC, and a little of semipro.

            I played basketball and fouled more than I scored and sometimes got in trouble in baseball for pileing into a second baseman. (I still don't know why a pitcher can throw at a batter but a batter can't throw his bat at the pitcher.)

              I played FS on defense all through pop warner to high school, I played RB early on but played QB in high school and Jr. College. Also did kick returns and punt returns through HS. I was short and stocky. Back in the 80's in HS ran a 4.6 forty on an old dirt track. Really loved my football playing days. In my 50's I still play with my sons and the local HS youth group, lot less running and just a pocket passer, I can still throw the rock pretty well, arm just get tired much faster.

                I played WR and CB in high school... even played a little RB my Senior year. I was also the KR/PR.
                CB was my favorite... it is better to give than receive!

                Senior year (Homecoming game) I scored a receiving TD, a Pick-6, and a kick-off for a TD. Trifecta!

                  MLB, LOLB, or ROLB? Or all three? Any one of them more than the other?

                    Probably more at LOLB, but some at each and even a few games at Safety in HS (due to injury of our best Safety.)

                      Not playing sports is very high on my list of things I miss in old age. my brother and I were reminiscing about that not long ago.
