    Pipe dream, I know...Jonathan Taylor?

Indy has given Taylor permission to seek a trade. Hear me out...

    - Ekeler is almost certainly gone after this season and it remains to be seen if the guys behind him can pick up the slack
    - Taylor is only 24 and one of the top 2-3 RB talents in the League
    - It would give us a bonafide 'bell cow' RB that teams would *have* to game plan around
    - His presence would/could open up the passing game, as teams would have to stick closer to the LOS to prevent him from running wild
    - He's a 3-down RB
    - He wants to be traded to a bonafide contender

Now, having said that, what would we have to give up to get him? Is he worth Ekeler and and 2nd round pick? IMO, he is. But the bigger question, and probably the one that would kill any deal, is the contract he'd demand.

    Thoughts?

I’d rather have Ekeler this year and worry about a new RB next year. I don’t think we have a rb problem on this team.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    Let’s win one for Mack.

I was initially tempted, but wouldn't trade anything more than Ekeler straight up.
and even now I think that would be a mistake.
Ekeler has chemistry with Herbert and the locker room. Any sudden moves now jeopardizes that chemistry.

He wants to be traded? Check.

He want to be traded to a contender? Check.

He wants a multiple year, big bucks deal? I don't blame him. But no thank you.

The Bolts didn't trade for an expensive, vet QB. They drafted Herb, got him on the cheap, and paid up when he demonstrated he's worth it.

I expect the Chargers to take a similar approach with the RB situation. That's *if* no one among the current RBs proves worthy.

              I'd do this - but only if we could get him under contract for at least 3 years (after 2023). Don't know how we could manage that though . . . . . . . . . . .

                Taylor checks this box . . . . . . . . . .

I feel for Richardson though - the rug's getting pulled out from under him. If I were Indy I'd start Minshew and just live with a lost season. There's a very real risk that Richardson gets damaged, either physically, mentally, or both. Think David Carr . . . . . . . . . Indy doesn't have any other threats other than Taylor - if he goes away it's ALL on Richardson. He's not ready for that - no way.

Glad you aren't our GM; even though TT sucks. Send draft capital to sign a RB to a long-term money contact? No way. Like I have said before, top draft capital and big money should only be spent on an QB, OL or DL.

Let's see how the RBs we have perform first. The trade deadline is Oct 31, that is seven games into the season, even with the early bye. If the lack of RB depth is a major weakness, then maybe do a trade for somebody. But let's give Spiller a chance to prove he's not a bust and maybe give Dotson a chance if Spiller isn't getting it done.

If he’s healthy he is a absolute beast and the last thing I want to see is him on a AFC West team.

Ekeler did his job. Jacobs holding out and now Taylor demanding a trade. Colts are doing what the Chargers did and letting him see if anyone bites. They pre emptively quashed the market by saying they want what the Panthers got for McCaffrey.
