Krasovic:
Chargers draftee Jatavis Brown is a speedy, versatile linebacker --- traits that are increasingly popular in the pass-happy NFL.
Brown has 4.52 speed in the 40-yard dash, identical to Chargers running back Melvin Gordon, the 15th pick last year.
As a weakside linebacker, Brown amassed huge tackling numbers for Akron. He had 12 sacks last year and was named Mid-American Conference defensive player of the year.
NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock predicted Saturday that Brown, a fifth-round selection, will become a Chargers starter in three years after he earns snaps on special teams and as a dime linebacker.
What's more, Mayock said the only significant difference between Brown and Deion Jones, a second-round selection of the Atlanta Falcons on Friday, is that Jones played in the SEC.
(In fairness, there's also significant size disparity: Brown is 5-11, 218; Jones, from LSU, is 6-1, 222.)
A Chargers parallel would be Jahleel Addae, a fellow Floridian and Mid-American Conference alum known for his energetic, violent style. Addae, signed as a college free agent out of Central Michigan, won a roster spot as a rookie.
Addae, a big winner in this Chargers draft, is San Diego's projected starter at strong safety this year.
Brown shares the same Florida hometown and high school with Chargers receiver/returner Travis Benjamin.
