I'd be rooting for the Lions against most teams. Like their upstart story and their "knee-biter" coach.
Gibbs is like Alvin Kamara in that he is a dual threat who has the speed to take it to the house if he gets in open space. I believe the Lions running game, and their use of the RBs in the passing game, will be a big factor if they do beat the Chiefs. Without Chris Jones the Lions might be able to run it down the Chief's throats. I'd love to see it.

I have a soft spot for the Lions too. I wish them a successful season except for the week the Chargers play them.

I have a hard time thinking Kelce will not attempt to play.

If there is any swelling on the knee they won't let him on the field. They are going to have 10 days to rest after tonight so why risk more serious injury? Reid is probably pretty confident they can beat the Lions anyway and even if they do lose it's a non-conference game. So if there is any risk to Kelce they have to sit him. It's not worth it.

That would be the smart thing and I don’t know how much you can aggravate a bone bruise but I just have a feeling he’ll try and play.

True, they can't be sloppy. They can't turn over the ball. And they have to limit big plays by the Chiefs while making a few of their own on offense. I'm very interested to see if the Lions can gash the Chiefs' defense with their run game, given the absence of Chris Jones and the Lions rookie 1st round RB. I don't know enough about the Lion's OL to comment on that, but they do have Herbert's college LT who was a Pro Bowler last season. If the Lions do gash the Chiefs' defense with the run and win game, expect Chris Jones to get signed before their week 2 game.

Games I'm excited to see this week besides ours:

Bengals @ Browns - I think the Browns are going to be good. I'm in a year-long pickem and had them winning the AFC South and the Bengals missing the playoffs. Should be a fun game.

Niners @ Steelers - There's been a lot of Steelers hype the last few weeks and I'm in on it. I also picked them as a WC team. Tomlin always maximizes his rosters and they should be above average on both sides of the ball. I have the Niners in the SB but they drop this first one.

Raiders @ Broncos - Consensus seems to be that the Raiders are going to suck and the Broncos are going to be mediocre. I think there's a chance that could flip. Jimmy G is competent, familiar with McDaniels and has pretty good skill position guys around him. The defense sucks but whatever, I'm not saying they'll be good. Russ might just suck, their receivers are hurt and Javonte is probably going to need half a season to get back up to full speed. Payton is a great coach, but they might be terrible for another year before he can really make his mark on the roster.

Bills @ Jets (MNF) - I think the Jets are going to be legit, that defensive front is nasty. It all depends on their offensive line. I think they match up pretty well with the Bills and get the statement win on Monday night.

I believe the Browns could be 2nd best in that division, but I don't think they are going to supplant Burrow and the Bengals. Thought they might beat the Bengals in Week 1. They've been pretty good against Burrow.

I like the Steelers in this game. I don't know how much Nick Bosa's return affects this game. Is he in good enough game shape to play effectively? I don't know really but I do have my doubts about him for this game. And that could be the difference maker.

I'm with you on the Raiders. I think they are going to be better than people think, and it will be their offense that wins some games they aren't expect to win. I agree re Jimmy GQ. He may not be an upgrade over Carr, but his relationship with McDaniels will be more simpatico. They still have Davante Adams and they have Jacobs under contract and they got maybe the best TE in the draft. Their OL is underrated. Their defense is what will hold them back. They did get perhaps the best pass rusher in the draft to play opposite Maxx Crosby. But the last time I looked at their depth chart Tillery was still starting for them, and that is going to be a problem. I have the Raiders finishing 3rd and the Broncos last in the division.

I'm not sold on the Jets. Brett Favre didn't get the Jets in the playoffs and I'm not sure Rodgers is going to fare any better. AR is going to be 40 this season and the Jets' OL is suspect. We'll see - it's kind of a mystery to me right now. But I'm taking the Bills in this game. They got Dalton Kincaid in the draft, giving them perhaps the best pass catching TE duo in the league paired with Dawson Knox. PFF believes Kincaid will start strong and may have 1,000 yds receiving as a rookie, which has only been done three times.

                        THIS . . . . . . . . . . . . . It'll hurt to not have him in a nationally televised game, but it's a long season, and they need Kelce healthy for most of it. Besides - the Lions will find a way to get beat by Mahomes . . . . . . . . . . probably in the last couple of minutes of the game.
