Hank was uptight as a broadcaster. He lacked a sense of humor. He used to have his own talk show. He once proclaimed that if he saw anyone throwing butts out their car windows he would read their license plates over the air. The following week his radio show was gone. Shortly thereafter he lost his sports anchor gig. He once confronted John Ireland in an elevator over a harmless radio prank (Mason and Ireland challenged their callers during Super Bowl week in 1994 to call every talk show, pose a legit question but sneak the words "The Big Show" (their show name) on the air). Loved him as a Charger. Wasn't fond of him as a broadcaster.

I will say this - he is one tough motherfucker. He woke up one morning and with no training decided to run a marathon that day. He completed it. Another time there was a celebrity home run derby at the Murph before a Padres game and Bauer was the only one to jack one out.

Conway was not very good and Buaer was awful so Hardwick can only be an improvement. Loved Bauer as a player, but as a sports newscaster, color commentator and on the post game show was virtually unlistenable.

Dont matter to me. I cant hear the local radio broadcast but i was never a fan of Hank Bauer. Even worse was Pat Curren when i did live there.

I remember when the Chargers beat Pittsburgh to go to the Super Bowl, XTRA Sports would always play Hacksaw's call at the end of the game "THE CHARGERS ARE GOING TO MIAMI!" and it sounded like Curran was sobbing in the background. He had been one of the Chargers PR guys in those years and suffered through many seasons as a homer. I suppose he really could've been laughing but I'd like to think he was sobbing.

For the Bauer and Acee haters... it seems that Acee learned a lot about football from Bauer. Then again, he was the only guy that talked with authority about the Special Teams, which gets marginalized by game analysts. Even Steve Tasker doesn't talk as passionately about Special Teams. I hope that Nick is balanced on all areas of the game, he almost has to as a Center for the O and D, and hopefully won't be Mr. Obvious on the ST's.
