He isn't a robot with no emotions like you seem to think he should be. If the distractions and/or health continue to affect him this year, it will almost assuredly cost him his job. This has NOTHING to do with being an athlete. I don't what your career is but you make it seem like you haven't ever seen anyone screw up, get lazy or get fired.
Like it or not, guys who make millions *are* in a different category then the rest of us schmoes. And it has EVERYTHING to do with Flowers being an (overpaid, luckier-than-shit) athlete. Because Mr. Flowers - and most all of the ATHLETES you - and others like you - adore, will lose his "job" with several MILLION dollars already banked (unless he's like a lot of overpaid, luckier-than-shit athletes who squander their money because they have brains the size of a pea), so none of us will soon be standing next to him on the Unemployment Line (dating myself here) waiting to pick up our less-than-$500.00/week checks.
And I no longer have a career; I retired from 37 years in the IT industry just 2 weeks ago. But whatever; I'm not buying the line that an unemployed, former multi-million dollar athlete has the same kind of financial worries than 'real' people have.

The human brain learns best by making mistakes. Human beings make mistakes. Anyone who says otherwise is a hyporcrit, which was the point I was making to one poster (and now a second).
You are not going to get the best out of poeple by firing their asses after every little mistake. I can assure you, every single player the chargers have will make at least one decent mistake this season, and probably many more. Same thing with however wins the SB. Everyone makes mistakes, you don't punish them for them, embrace them. But if they don't correct them, you replace them when you have a better option. Again, right now, we don't have a better option. That may change come TC, but at this point we don't.
Horse may be trying to throw himself a little pity party about being in an unforgiving profession, but that is not what this is about. I don't feel sorry for a guy who gets into a professional camp and gets to live out a dream. Some make it, some don't. Some make a ton of money, some don't. But all get to shoot for the dream, and most won't get there. I don't feel sorry for them at all. They should all celebrate it.
One of the reasons I get so analytical about football is because the pure emotion thing doesn't help. We have no control over the chargers. It just gets really old and pissy to bitch and moan because the Chargers are not the most storied of franchises. I enjoy football a lot more when I try and take some of the emotion out of it, because even when I take the 90% out, there is still plenty left. I have broken 2 bones and seperated my bad shoulder (pole vaulting injury) 3 or 4 times getting upset at bad calls, and horrible play selections. It just doesn't help to piss and moan about cutting one of the guys who is historically one of our better players just because he played badly last year. He may play badly again, but what choice do we have. Cut him at play Mager, who may not be ready? Steve Williams? I'll bet that Flowers is still the better player.

You spelled hypocrite incorrectly. But I take offense if you are calling me a hypocrite.
I have always pushed ONE THEME when it comes to the guys who play this silly game we all watch: They are damn lucky to be able to do what they do, and they are WAY overpaid to boot, IMO. So yeah, I hold them to a MUCH higher standard than I do for the Common Working American. Surely you must have noticed how unsympathetic I am to even minor abuses - or misuses - of that privilege.
I suppose I shouldn't have stuck my Italian nose where it doesn't belong; if Hoarse had/has a problem with one of your posts, then it's none of my damn business. But I just hate it when someone tries - as I felt that you were - to equate what happens in football to what the rest of us have to deal with in the Real World. There really isn't any comparison. Hell, if the 53rd scrub on the worst team in football, who might never see the field for an entire season, makes several hundred thousand dollars/year. I was an IT pro for 37 years and only after I turned 55 did I sniff 6 figures. And I consider myself one of the lucky ones. I am certain there are guys on this board who have to scratch and claw just to make ends meet. If you call that a "pity party" then you and I are on far different wavelengths.
So, in my humble opinion, there's nothing at all hypocritical about having expectations of "our" athletes (as if they give a rat's ass about us). What Flowers (or anyone) SAYS in an interview is one thing; for Hoarse to imply (or say outright) that he needs to put up or shut up is spot on. The same rule applies to everyone; wealthy or not. The BIG difference is that Flowers - or actors, or lawyers, or scientists - have something to fall back on. Most of us don't.

It doesn't matter how good our DB are if we don't have a pass rush. Any QB who is in the NFL can complete passes if you give him much time. The secondary has been more than good enough for a while. The pass rush hasn't been good since Merriman and Phillips.

You're out of your league when it comes to personalities and human nature.

Guys who make millions are NOT in a different category than us, no matter how many times you say this. They are people with strengths and weaknesses just like you and me. They, like actors, musicians, politicians and anyone in the public eye have their mistakes magnified because of this - but that goes with their career. It's utterly unrealistic to think they won't make mistakes or say dumb things like you or I do. They aren't robots, they are people and you sure seem to set yourself up for constant disappointment thinking this.
I could probably take your question: "Who are your to proclaim this about someone you don't know?" and apply it to 90% - if not more - of all the posts made here. And you're just as guilty as the rest of us. So look in the mirror and ask YOURSELF that question. When you come up with an answer, let me know. The same answer applies to me (and everyone else). If you're pushing to make this an investigative site, where we have to start footnoting our sources, and "proving" stuff, well...that's the day you won't have to worry about me posting anymore.
