He may be a "healthy" scratch, but I wonder if he's on a bit of a pitch count early in the season.

I am doing my best to give this guy the benefit of the doubt because his injury truly was severe.

He is not on the injury report, so I am assuming he's healthy enough to play without restriction.

I think results to date show that he hasn't fully recovered from his injury, so calling him a "healthy scratch" is a stretch.

When Belichick wasn't interested in making an offer to retain him Staley and Telesco should've asked themselves why. JCJ is on the books for $20 mil this season and $18.125 mil for next season, but that is the extent of his guaranteed contract. "Only" $54.375 mil of his contract is guaranteed. If the relationship has really gone south, they can release him but the will still owe him the full amount of his guarantee and it will count against the cap.

Except the Patriots did try to resign him but didn't have much cap space.

Staley benched a starting CB..... but even made him inactive as in unavailable against a team that likes to spread receivers all over the field..... did he add another DB in his place? or another position?....

I expect Staley who realizes how bad his defense is to focus our offense on running the ball and dinking and dunking short passes to keep the clock running and keep the total score down so this game does not become a crazy shootout that exposes his bad defense more than necessary..... if both teams only have 4-6 possessions then both teams will likely only score 2-3 times..... which helps Staley save his job ---he can claim his defense improved, even if it has not..... the Marty clock wasting system, helps keep coaches employed.....

I would rather see Staley open up the offense aggressively shooting for 40+ points per game then challenge his defense to keep the other team under 30!....at least we would be exciting to watch over this boring way we have been losing....

There is still a huge difference in the coaching on Chargers vs coaching on most other teams..... NO coach in football talks like Staley..... Players understand "blocking" "hitting" and "tackling"......NOT "connections"..... "relationships" ...etc...

We have more talent than what shows up on gameday,,,, and none of our talent is playing its best or being put in position to play their best.... ... due to bad coaching....
