I still occasionally watch NFL Films highlights of that ill-fated playoff game...mainly to keep my burning hate of the Patriots fresh, but to also keep the memory of that pain alive so that if one day we are able to win it all, it will be all that much sweeter.

You couldn't pay me to watch that playoff game against the Cheatriots again - or Marty's other massive chokejob against the Jets in 2004, for that matter.
With that said, as the years have passed since that season, I'm not convinced anymore that 2006 was our year anyway. We played one legit playoff contender that entire regular season (Baltimore) and lost to them. The only other playoff teams we faced were the 9-7 Chiefs and 9-7 Seahawks, and we were a last-minute touchdown away from going 1-2 in those games. Knowing that the '06 Chargers were an untested team with a weak schedule and a born loser as their coach, I don't view it as such a big missed opportunity anymore. I'm way more bitter about 1980, 1981 and 2009.

Oh, and he talked about how much Howard Cosell got him laid. Howard was hit on all the time by groupies but never cheated on his wife. Chet ate dinner with him after the MNF games and picked up the overflow. Chet was a fun guy. Had a bad life with the drugs and the gambling, but he lived large. Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
Let’s win one for Mack.

Another Chet story - he did color one year for the Chargers paired with Hacksaw, I think it was 1995. They were playing Belicheat's Browns and it came down to the final seconds and the Chargers were up something like 30-10. The Browns had the ball and Belicheat called timeout with about two seconds left to kick a meaningless field goal, and as Hacksaw dutifully described the play by play, Chet kept saying "SO WHAT?", and "WHO CARES?!" over Smacksaw as he was incredulous that Belicheat would waste time kicking a pointless field goal like that as time ran out at the end.
