I need to do something for my city police (Palm Springs) to let them know I appreciate them. I've thought about this before. After riding in the front seat - a year or so ago - with a cop trying to find someone on the streets - this lady went off her meds and I volunteered to help find her - I saw how poorly cops can eat when they work double shifts. The cop that was driving me around that night literally went into a Circle K and came out with a couple candy bars. I really felt for the guy. Then I thought why not make the officers a salad? I mean at least they'd get something healthy for one meal. But would they eat it? Would they have time?
Then shortly after getting his candy bars unwrapped he got a call on his radio that there was a domestic dispute. I told him right there that cops are a different breed. I wouldn't dream of getting in the middle of some man and woman having an argument - or worse. No thank you. Honestly, I think I'd just fire a warning shot in the ceiling of the couple's place and tell them the next one is for you guys. And I would mean it. I don't know how cops survive one fucking mess after another. Now you add getting shot at and I really don't know why the fuck anyone becomes a police officer.
God Bless both officers. May one of them rest in peace.

Form a "_____ Lives Matter" encounter group. Sorry for the snark, just sick of all of this and the polarization that accompanies it.
I wish both sides would linger in the others shoes long enough to learn something transformative. Right now I see this just like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict though. And there's no effort from any leadership - that I know of - to help both sides understand each other. Not from the top down anyway. So I expect we'll see more blacks getting killed unnecessarily and more cops getting shot as well. Apparently something bigger must happen before real change takes effect.
Google 'Police Benevolence Association' in your area.
You reminded me of something. Palm Springs has a street fair every Thursday night and a couple years ago I saw a gentleman selling t-shirts. He said the profits were for the police officer wives who were widowed in the line of duty. I almost started crying right there. Kind of did. I gave him some money and I didn't even ask for a shirt. That is heart-breaking shit to hear.
That association sounds like something the t-shirt seller must have been part of. I'll check into it.
