Everybody loves Herbert and we have other young quality players.
Talk, be ready to make him happy. It's not out of the question 'till he says no to our best offer.
Well, Harbaugh just leaked Michigan wants to pay him 12 mil for 10 years.

Are you ready to run the risk he's not going to work out, and you will have to eat like 7 years of that contract to make him happy?

Probably the lowest I've felt about the team since 2010. Just an abyss out there waiting for us.
so the current 50-65% opposing fans in the stands hasn't been humiliating enough? If Dean Spanos cared about that he wouldn't have moved the team to begin with, it's us charger fans that get embarrassed not the Spanos family, Alex and Dean and siblings all grew up original diehard raider fans from NorCal, the Chargers have always been an investment for these guys, it wouldn't surprise me if dean wears raider gear when not in public...

In case you haven't noticed, the trophy case is empty, if Harbaugh fizzles out here then so be it. At least we went down swinging.

And if Dean is left holding the bag for the rest of his contract, so what?

Maybe it will ultimately force him to declare bankruptcy and sell the team.

So basically there's no downside to giving Harbaugh a blank check IMO.

You're assuming too much. The Chargers don't have to offer him a 10 year deal to land him. They do have to better the $12M/yr, perhaps by quite
a lot. But realize NFL teams will make around $250M per team on TV deals alone. They are flush with money. A $20M/yr deal is possible. It will eat
into Spanos' profits. Do you care?

A 10 year contract / blank check means that Harbaugh can tell John Spanos to go take a flying F in football matters for quite some time:
the Spanos have to sit there and take it, unless they want to eat the massive contract.

As much as the Spanos foreswear to be good little boys and give the coach/GM a ton of freedoms,
they're Spanos, after all, and can't help themselves. It's their team, not your's, mine or L.A.s ..... their team!!!!

Their meddling, annoying, preening nature can only be suppressed for so long:
like a volcano plugged up for a while, it will come out explosively if nature takes its course.

What you think is a weakness, would actually be a strength.
                  Is there any other way?

The Spanos, after promising first time head coach ethan dirkson that they will not meddle, are concerned in year 2 about the state of the football team.

Harbaugh's first response to John Spanos's 3rd attempt to reach him.

I will be OK with that only if Harbaugh chooses not to go to the NFL. I can't get excited about Ben Johnson or anyone else.

There are reports that the Bears are sticking with Matt Eberflus. I think they realize they don't have a chance at Harbaugh and don't want to bother making a lateral move at head coach. We had no choice because Staley was possibly the worst head coach in franchise history.
