It was usually a couple guys that shouldn’t be starters and no backups worth a crap.

Even with current question marks I think the OL is light years better than it ever was during Telesco’s era.
Slater and Linsley were difference makers. I wouldn't go light years until we get a top C. I DO love the Alt and Becton adds.

Harbaugh also said he didn't want to do that all camp long so I expect we see the starters nailed down sooner rather than later.

I can't help but root for him because his experience there is significant, especially if he can return to his 2023 form.
Zion can always start at LG and be backup OC.
The B-Z experiment does not sound like it’s going well to me. Suddenly Salyer working into the mix, James now getting mentions … Coaches are WAY LATE in trying out all of the players, they locked in on their B-Z plan from day 1 and looks like they may have wasted a lot of valuable camp time. B-Z still seem incapable of stacking multiple consistent reps in either order of LG-C without mental errors.

Any chance we get Sydney Sweeney modeling the Powder Blues this year? Asking for a friend.

I am about fed up with Zion's lack of feel for inside pressure. He thinks too damn much and also tries to make every block a pancake.

    Salyer-James.
    Boze depth.

I like the way Tre Harris attacks at the catch point and the way he adjusts to throws.

    Zion.
    QJ.
How much longer are we supposed to say ah shucks...but look at those traits ?

    Then there's Gadsden.

    Let's leap into the future.

As Harbs says, others need to elevate their game to Herbert's level.
    Wait time is over.

I have a strong sense that Zion and QJ will let us down sooner or later in regular season games.

Edge has the edge for round #1 pick.
Dupree is nothing more than a 3rd or 4th OLB or DE. Better as a 4th OLB. He might be over 30, but he can still run. Really good speed for an edge.

What he can't do is use his hands well, play with good lane discipline and be physical setting the edge - or at least get off the block when he sets it. He's not great, but he is a OK backup. Remembering that the high end of the edge market is not $40 mill per year, Bud's $4 mill is downright cheap. plus, we can cut him and he costs us almost nothing ($250k dead money next year - sportstrac).

It is worth remembering, in the preseason draft stuff for next year, there is a real lack of technically sound edge guys with speed. That may be why we extended Dupree. We can always cut someone like Bud if we get that replacement, but Joe likes to keep FA so he isn't forced to make a move. I think there is going to be some help at C.

Clemson's T.J. Parker headlines the 2026 NFL Draft's edge defender class early in the draft cycle.

I haven't heard anything about Kyle Kennard ....no news is generally bad news for rookies, the tendency is to hype them if they show anything.

When was the last time a team won the Super Bowl with an elite edge? .... and I'm not counting Chris Jones, who primarily terrorizes from inside.

KC, Rams, eagles, patriots, .... been a long time
The current FO and coaching staff apparently liked Dupree over Van Noy as their other vet edge. So there’s that.

Chris Jones doesn't primarily terrorize from the inside. About half his snaps are lined up at DE.

Mean Joe Greene helped the Steelers win 4 SB as their best pass rusher, and he played 43 DT. Rams did with Donald. Those are off the top of my head, so there may be more.

Also, Minter was talking up Kennard in his Hall of Fame Game presser today (7/28) - ~3:30
