Zion Johnson is guaranteed $2.7m next year -plus his signing bonus accrual of $2.0 so a total cap hit of $4.7m whether he is on the roster or not
1) Elijah Molden was traded for a 2026 7th round pick - if a team wants to trade for Zion for a future 7th -- I am good
2) Chargers need to bring in competition for Zion Johnson at LG and if Zion wins the competition, so be it, if not, he will be a back up OG along with Salyer
For a Jim Harbaugh team to have this kind of OL play is utter malfeasance.
I know our cap limitations going into last year and all that, but still. The entire IOL underperformed, big time. Zion and Pipkins were supposed to rebound. Bozeman was supposed to be at least decent. All 3 were worse than imagined.

My guess, it will be addressed in a big time way this off-season. Harbaugh talked about the OLine being the "tip of the spear" and "playmakers."
As Jeremiah said, this will be the worst offense that Herbert has with Harbaugh. Now that may not be forever but at least the next few years
Which is why - in free agency, I think Dalman and or Smith should be priority targets.
Zeitler, Scherff and Kelly are short term 1-2 year solutions. Chargers need to find at least one of the two spots, RG or Center - to be a long term solution with Alt and Slater. Grow the Oline. Now if you sign say Kelly and Zeitler or Scherff - that should improve the Oline. But damn well be sure Hortiz needs to draft OC and OG this year.

I'm a big fan of the "Smith-Dalman plan." Use that Tee Higgins money to get both of these dudes.

Granted, both could be franchised or both could re-up with their current teams plus many teams have cap space like Patriots, Raiders and the Vikings will be players after Monday night if they move on from Darnold - they have a bunch of capspace - that said, the Chargers should be in those conversations. At least one of them if they hit the market
You give me Dalman and Zeitler - drafting an OG - fine
Kelly or Corbett at Center with Smith at RG - I can live with that too

Man you sure aim low. OL are coveted. Im sure we can get more than that. Id think an easy 4th, perhaps someone really is desperate like Chicago hands us a 3rd. Longshot perhaps, but cant rule it out. Their OL is awful and Caleb was sacked 68 times, ....though imo Zion wont help a lot there lol. But they are the Bears and then theres Cleveland. Bad teams make bad choices.

You could almost see the anger in Harbaughs face during the presser when he was talking about the need for the QB to be able to finish his throwing motion. He is going to blow up the IOL no doubt.
Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!
Tip of the Spear (OL) can finally no longer be dull, but SHARP.
Plus, another good weapon at TE or WR
This draft seems to have a lot of solid TEs - the 2023 draft did as well - when Telesco whiffed and didn't draft one. I doubt Hortiz makes the same mistake. He will get a TE this draft - might even take one in R1.
