Emmitt has the stats which put him in contention for greatest but I know I saw Barry and Jim do things Emitt couldn’t.
Yeah, I posted almost the same before I saw you post this. I agree with you. Emmit slides in somewhere around #4-7 on my list

JB beat the crap out of defenders, sometimes he’d just swat them aside

Jim Brown was #1 and I agree. Some other names we haven't mentioned appear there. LT was his #5.

He has Bo and Gale at 4 and 3. Two guys that COULD have been the greatest but didn’t play long enough to make the list imo.

Bo was the greatest athlete we’ve ever seen imo, but too much power and speed for his own body (hip)

Dallas's offensive line was so dominant during Smith's prime years. I have a hard time believing he would have been as impressive as Tomlinson if Smith played in San Diego. I also think Marshall Faulk and Adrian Peterson were better than Smith.

I think the greatest running back of all time is between Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. For obvious reasons, O.J. Simpson will not be remembered for how great he was.

Your article notes Jim Brown led the league in rushing 8 out of the 9 seasons he played!

Like DMAC posted, you felt a degree of sympathy for those tasked with tackling Jim.

6’2” 232 lbs of attitude. He would talk about challenging opponents, implying that tacklers needed to be strong enough to withstand his impact.

              Didn't see Sayers and Brown.
After them, my top 5 is pretty officiel

              1- W. Payton
              2- E. Dickerson
              3- B. Sanders
              4- E. Campbell
              5- L. Tomlinson

              B. Jackson was the most spectacular (maybe at 6 !)

Emmitt had some of the best offensive lines any running back has ever had, period...I think he was a very good back, he was efficient, sneaky quick and powerful for his size but he had some amazing offensive lines, I can only imagine what Sanders or Tomlinson could've done with those lines!

Barry Sanders was the Michael Jordan of running backs, he did Spiderman type shit on a routine basis that would've been on other backs best ever plays for a career, Barry did that stuff every single week in every game he played. Sander was on another level NOBODY can touch Sanders, I love Tomlinson to death and the best compliment I can give LT is that he's one of the rare guys that can even be put in the same conversation with Barry Sanders.

When I think of running backs that could come close to making people look as stupid as Barry Sanders did week in and week out, I think of Marshal Faulk and Ladanian Tomlinson, two guys that we were so incredibly luck to see here in person in San Diego!

Fuck that, Jim Brown played in an era with way inferior talent than other backs that came after him, Black players hadn't proliferated the NFL yet...I respect what Brown went through with all the racism and all that type of shit but to say that he's the greatest of all time is just the same old cut and past nonsense. Barry Sanders would've averaged 200 yards in the NFL that Jim played in...

                        My top ten would be

                        Barry Sanders

                        Marshal Faulk

                        Ladanian Tomlinson

                        Hershel Walker

                        Eric Dickerson

                        Earl Cambell

                        OJ Simpson

                        Jim Brown

                        Walter Payton

                        Bo Jackson

Yep...when Bo injured that hip in a game, he popped it back into place so he could keep playing, (5:28) but it caused more damage, further shortening his career:
