I watched that interview. I don't think Harris slammed Herbert and I also think what he said is fair and correct. Herbert is great but he is not a QB you fear having the ball late in the game because he is going to take over like Elway, Manning, Mahomes, Brady etc do or did. Rivers was the same way. I am sure there are a lot of reasons and factors and not all are directly attributable to Rivers and Herbert, but the results are the results. Harris did say he thinks Herbert has it in him, just needs to be unlocked.

How many times have we seen Herbert take the lead in the 4th qtr. with about 5 min left in the game only to end up losing the game because the defense couldn't make a stop, or the defense would give up a score only to leave the offense around 2 mins if that to tie or win.

We forgot that he worked his ass off only to put the team ahead the 1st time and now the team is asking him to do it again with less than 2 mins. I think some people have unrealistic expectations for Herbert or QBs for that matter. I mean every now and then you need a defense to make a stop or a RB to make a 1st down on 3rd and short. Blaming it all on Herbert is not fair and not warranted. Herbert is clutch, the rest of the team in the past not so much.

Lately, he's not getting it done.

Hard to bring teams back when you cannot score in the 2nd half of games and your defense is a joke. Is that on Herbert or the former coaching staff.

Herbert has 11 4th quarter comebacks, I think Mahomes has 14 while playing more games.

Of course Mahomes has playoff wins and Super Bowls. He also has had 6 very stable years in the same offence with a great coach Andy Reid. Herbert has never had a good coach and has had to learn 4 offences with 3 OCs in 4 years...not to mention no defence, Herbert is 22-6 when the Chargers defence allows 28 points or less...no run game....and since 2020 Herbert has been pressured the 2nd most in the NFL.

Yet despite all these obstacles Herbert has had a historical statistical start to his NFL career. I get that Herbert needs some big wins to cement his legacy but he is still only 26. All the media attacks and calling him out for not being a winner is way off base.

I think Chris Harris Jr's statement is based on an incomplete and lazy assessment thrown carelessly like the proverbial "Shit on the wall to see what sticks."
The least he could have done is acknowledge 1 of the multiple circumstances unique to Herbert that other supported QBs don't have to deal with.
Put ANY other "clutch" QB in his shoes and see how clutch they are with no run game, shit defense and Lynn and Staley as their HCs...
Herbert's throw to Williams vs Titans doesn't count apparently. His mutiple 4th down conversations vs turds before Staley took the ball out of his hands, that doesn't count either I suppose.
