Just like his mentor, John Butler. Actually, Smith was the lesser dick.

IMO, Booker would be an outstanding pick at #22. There *could* be others available at that spot that would be even better picks, but we won't know until we get there.

So, expect to bring in a team full of backups in free agency (aka depth) to fill the empty roster spots.

Again and again they would say it ... that part was maddening.

I was hoping for a Mike Goff type on the oline ... figuring Hortiz knows more than at least some of us pretend to know on the abilities of those who were available.
I was never on board the Trey Smith / 25 million + wagon ... Becton was a pleasant surprise.
all these free agents signed very short deals, the only one that signed longer than 2 years is Molden, correct? and that's only a 3 year deal, if that's not a way to buy time while you build thru the draft then I don't know what the hell it is, the free agents are temporary hole plugging measures to stay competitive in the interim while the draft picks will be 4 and 5 year solutions, this is what he said and this is what he's doing...how any Charger fan can be critical of a guy that uses cap wisely by filling more needs for the price of one over priced dude? that I don't understand...

I liked AJ, he was a tough as nails dude that built a great fucking roster, yes, he was arrogant and he lacked some people skills and in part that's due to how he came up thru the ranks, the man saw himself as a scout first and foremost, he wasn't cut out to deal with agents, owners, and coaches...but he did build a great team and no one should take that from him...

I do think the idea with Becton is do it again and we’ll give you a long term deal. And he and his agent know this is the perfect place to do that as next year they have a lot of $$$ in FA again plus it’s LA and Harbaugh.
            No downside.

they showed us this year that they will extend people that buy in and perform, but they won't get into bidding wars over them, we saw Poona was offered like 7 APY and signed for 10 APY, while Molden and the Chargers found common ground and he signed early...Nobody blames Poona for leaving and taking the bigger deal but I also don't blame the FO for thinking they can just find this year's Poona and do it all over again...

AJ made some great player moves his first few years...until he started whiffing in the draft, and extending players to ridiculous bank contracts, who never panned out...

Welcome to the H&H Restaurant bolt faithful, chef Harbaugh and Souz Chef Hortiz know how to add anticipation to their meal. All are welcome and all patrons gets servings of feel goods!

I wanted Belichek last year but I’m really loving Harbaugh, he’s just the sort of culture we needed.

I was never critical of Hortiz, and my issue wasn't with the idea of leaning heavily on building a team through the draft,
nor was I pushing for the signings of Metcalfe (although it appears Hortiz made some inquiries), Fries, excetra - the players that demanded the biggest contracts.

My issue was with those stating, after Tuesday, that Hortiz' inactivity was due to a disinclination to bring in any starters because he wants to build the roster through the draft,
and that all future signings will be a matter of adding depth to the roster. Hortiz, of course, never uttered any of these words, nor is there any firm evidence that he sees free agency
entirely as a one year gap filling excercise.

If you contend otherwise: well, Bozeman is here for maybe two more seasons, Tart is here for at least one more season, Perryman is here for at least one more season.
Dissley, if you remember, signed a 3 year contract. Molden came in a trade. If you are willing to throw him in than we might as well throw in Mack, who is in year 4.
I'm sure they would like to consider resigning Becton in two years.

The Ravens, Hortiz' model, threw a lot of money at Derick Henry last year: kind of like KC with Thuney or Mitchell Schwartz.
Even they aren't committed to what you are advocating, they are just more selective than most.

There will most likely be a time soon when Hortiz will go after one player that he thinks will put them over the top and is a perfect fit, and signs him to a big contract.
Practically every Super Bowl winner does it.

Even Tom Telesco would say that one must construct a team through the draft: such language is both obvious and entirely meaningless at the same time.
Bad teams signing free agents to huge contracts is foolish: I'll agree to that.

People feel anonymous enough, behind their computer screens, to vent thoughts and ideas that are far less filtered than they'd ever say to most people face-to-face. Other people just release their inner child in this forum. I know EYE do!

Would you ever tell a player via email, much less in person, that they aren't cutting it and the Chargers need to move on?
                          I sure as hell wouldn't.

Good manners would make this a very dull place.

BTW, Pip needs to focus, improve his technique and stay away from injuries, and I think we can then depend on him to start next season.
