This may prove to be a good group, but it fails, IMO, to qualify for the label 'stacked'. Even calling the group 'promising' is optimistic.

The Bolts are 'stacked' at quarterback and placekicker. Everything else is just forecasting.
Definitely an unproven group, but the word "stacked" could apply in comparison to the WR black hole we are being portrayed as having.

I see Ladd as one of the surer bets to produce as a rookie - i hope i am right. also, if Palmer is healthy, he will put up some good numbers. QJ is a big question mark, but I think he will benefit from the new coaches and scheme more than anyone. As others have said, we have bigger worries than the WR room.

this whole team has a lot of "if things go right" caveats (RB, D-line, etc.), so we'll see.

Don't misunderstand me-- It's fine to like the wideout group, and/or be optimistic about it. It's just not accurate to call the group "stacked", which IMO implies a strength and depth that has NOT yet been proven.

Those are issues that impacted every RB on the Bolts' roster. Some of his failure to develop-- probably a lot-- falls directly on Spiller, though.

How often have you seen an NFL back do NOTHING in his first two seasons, and in year three (with a better O-line and different coaching) make a solid contribution? It's as rare as a woman with three boobs.

I am, however, with you in the sentiment that I hope Spiller turns things around. I hope for World Peace, too.

Quack, I'll give u that our wideout group is, as a group unproven at this point...but...Palmer and Chark ARE proven, QJ did gain 431yards last year with Slayer, Mike Will and Palmer ahead of him...so not bad actually...so that part is proven...add to that Conk who was very highly rated on most boards (in top 5 or so), plus Rice and Johnson and I still think we have, if u don't like "stacked," then a pretty good wideout room with the potential to be really good...

Chark is on a one year Prove It deal. That's the very definition of "unproven". It means "maybe he has something left, but maybe he's a has-been". LOL. Chark has had his moments in the NFL, but has also been plagued by drops. Not a good thing, right? IMO, his ceiling with the Bolts is as a transitional guy, here for a season or two, max, until some young guys can (hopefully) develop. He's not Randall Cobb in his prime.

And speaking of 'drops', then there's QJ, amiright? Is it possible for him to get better? Most likely, yes. Will he put it together *this* season? Maybe, and maybe not. It's *unproven* at this juncture. We are all only guessing until we see him in game action. The only thing we actually KNOW about QJ is that it's important for him to play better than he did as a rook.

I like Palmer. It bums me out that he's in the final year of his rookie deal, and will-- in my opinion-- attract a good amount of attention in the free agent market next offseason. Most likely, too expensive for the Bolts to re-sign. So it's difficult for me to consider JP a building block of the receiver group, moving forward.

Like you, I'm highly curious to see what guys like Brenden Rice, Cornelius Johnson, and even Praise Guacamole* can do. But unlike you, I see it as unrealistic to think that more than ONE grey horse has a chance to win in this race. The fan in you wants to believe that every Charger will excel, but.... Presumably your experience as a football fan, in general, and a Bolt fan in particular has taught you something different.

Who cares now, one will emerge. Also think Davis will make the roster before any of the rookies. Plus the TE group was fully upgraded to fit the new offense.

Now, the RB room? Holding my breath. Hope Vidal is ready when needed.

It will be interesting to see if the lack of a clear #1 makes the WR group as a whole harder to plan for and defend. I agree Davis makes the roster due to ST. Ditto on TE group - really look forward to seeing what a set of physical TEs will do to balance the offense and how Parham fits into the new equation (if he does).

EVERY Charger receiver the last 4 years has had an adjustment period to Herbie's rocket arm. Even Dub, Even Slayer. Even Everett. TBD if he starts strong ... he looks like a primary backup to me as of today but vets haven't even reported, lots to see and learn.

                    According to Athlon Sports :

« Rookie Ladd McConkey's polish and NFL readiness should make for a quick transition. »

We should be confident with a top four of Palmer, QJ, Chark and McConkey.

                      Plus Slater--Alt.

                      The kids have promise.
                      DD. Rice.

I'm in the realm of we will be good enough with our receiving core...it's up to the rest of the team to make plays as well on defense and also the oline/RB group. We had lots of great individual efforts over the past 5 years but not a Great TEAM effort.

Here's an article by that famous Jewish Spaniard, Ricardo Klein. He quotes Daniel Popper heavily and contends that neither Brenden Rice nor Cornelius Johnson showed much over the Spring. Of the UDFA wideouts, Popper was most impressed by Jaelen Gill.

Agree or not, it's an interesting perspective.
