Sarell at one time was one of the top rated OT's in college...but for some inexplicable reason, never really developed...

Tony Mandarich, Michigan State. Once billed as the best offensive line prospect ever. 2nd overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft.

Never lived up to his reputation, which far exceeded the hype on Leatherwood. Looked like a can't miss. Wrong!

He's probably the biggest bust among offensive linemen in NFL history, but he actually played pretty well at right guard and right tackle for the Indianapolis Colts from 1996 through 1998. He was a starter. If he could come back from the disaster he was in Green Bay and sitting out four NFL seasons, I think we can hope for Alex Leatherwood to provide depth for us.

I was reading that the Chargers had 3 different o-line combos. In one of the combos Sarell was @ LT. I know it's just OTAs, but it does look like they are trying to find the best t o-linemen, and they are giving the guys a chance to earn their spots.

I don't really think of him in my 2024 improved team record scenario, but it sure would be nice if the kid could learn to play NFL defense, including tackling, cuz he's fast as shit back there.

I know it's early but after listening to a lot of the vets (those that were here and the recent signings), I believe we will see a shit ton of improvement from all the players. So many of the players have said how player friendly this defensive scheme is. I know we have to see how this plays out on the field against teams but man the more you listen to the players and coaches the more you can see how much of a shit show the last coaching staff was.

This should be fun to watch.

The fate of Leatherman, imo is not can he come in and be a starter, that is improbable. His fate lies in can he secure a backup role. I only saw his play in his initial OAK/LV rookie year in which he was an utterly horrible OT, completely outmatched in a way I am not sure was ONLY coaching. He looked exactly as the overwhelming majority of TPB saw - a guy with heavy slow feet that would not compete against elite NFL edge players. But could he develop and improve in 3 years and develop into an OG ? - beats the hell out of me.

Will they carry 9 or 10 OL? If its an OL-centric team, maybe they make room for #10 or maybe they designate #10 for their blocking TE? Does the LS count in the 9 or 10? lets count the certains and the other backup competitors:

I don't see the harm in taking a look at a guy that was a solid second round graded player just 3 years ago...it does seem odd that he's moved so quickly so often although I suspect his original contract might've played a part there...

Don't forget about Greg Robinson, OL from the Rams. He was drafted 2nd overall.
