Another reason IOL depth and improvement should have a been a higher focus in the off season. If you are going to put your eggs in the basket of signing Mekhi Becton as your main OL improvement then you better have solid contingency plans.Originally posted by jamrock View Post
Becton already giving you can't count on me vibes. Started in training camp actually
There is a reason why a player with the draft pedigree, size, and talent of Becton was available in free agency for the relatively cheap price of 10 million a year on a short deal. I dont think any football executive should have revolved their gameplan around him playing 17 games

Keenan Allen is 33 years old. He's not going to last much longer. We are four games into Tre Harris's rookie season. Keenan Allen caught three passes in his first three games before he entered the lineup due to Malcom Floyd's injury. You draft players in the second round because you think they're going to be long-term starters. Tre Harris's chances of becoming a starter are not over.Originally posted by electricgold View Post
What I'm hearing is Tate Ratledge is playing at an elite level four games into the season,, Are you saying Zion is a better OG who contributed to Alt's injury yesterday?! Ozzy Trapilo played yesterday and I heard he played very well and once they put him in Maxx Crosby did nada!
If we had either Ratledge or Trapilo they'd of probably played yesterday! Our depth at OT was dreadful going into the season. And it still is! And I see we are working out more journeymen. Great!
Tre Harris I believe has three catches on the season so far for 45 yards! You don't draft 2nd round picks to learn behind Keenan Allen! You sign Keenan Allen and move on to your next position.
I was wrong about Trapilo not seeing any action so far. He's been in for 40 plays and has below average run-blocking grades. His pass-blocking grades are average. Either way, it doesn't matter, because who in the world selects an offensive tackle in the second round when you have Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater? That's being totally unrealistic.
From what I've been reading Tate Ratledge has been a good run blocker but hasn't done better than Zion as a pass blocker. Ratledge played like shit against the Packers and even admitted so. From what I've been reading, he wasn't good yesterday, either, as he ranked as one of the bottom five offensive players for Detroit. He played very well against the Ravens, but so did the Chiefs' Kingsley Suamataia yesterday, after he was a bust last year and struggled the first three weeks this season.
Regardless, it's too small of a sample size to say we shouldn't have drafted Tre Harris. Just like it was too small of a sample size to say we made a mistake taking Omarion Hampton in the first round, after he had only 72 rushing yards in the first two weeks of the season.

Its not like the old back is acting up, or he tore a tendon in his knee once again.

Yup........he got injured so he sucks. Forget the he was a road grader for the Eagles last year......BUM.....played in 15 games.....POS......900+ snaps or 88% played......FAIL.....Had 2 penalties called on him all year......WEAK!!!!
I swear we tear down so many guys every year on here........Give it a rest IMHO!

Not sure if it means anything more than Joe is a warrior and figured on one leg he could do better than Decelus was doing. Don’t forget this guy wanted to play too …Originally posted by richpjr View Post
If he actually was lobbying to go back into the game, that gives me hope he won't be gone for too long.

They drafted Tre about 3 months before they signed Allen. They didn’t draft him to lean from Allen. I’ve seen some good signs from him too - I wouldn’t discount his long-term value either.Originally posted by DerwinBosa View Post

Hindsight is great, we should have drafted more OL. I wanted Joe to add to IOL, not OT. I thought we were good there - not sure how many spare OTs some people think a team will carry on the bench. Tate has struggled from what I read too. I do like the name Tate though, give him 5 PFF points just for that.
Folks are mad, folks are thrashing. It’s all normal after a loss. Maybe the OL can pull it together this Sunday, maybe the OL continues to flounder for a couple weeks until both Alt and Becton are back. Then there are still another 10+ games. Its a long season - still no idea what it all means to the final answer. There are no magic beans to plant in the OL, woulda coulda shouldas are just easy after the fact. I was not reading any of “GET A STARTING OT!!!” Around there before Slater went down.
it sucks. We’ll see what happens.Justin Herbert 2026 MVP Watch

I said before and I’ll say it again, I don’t think it’s as much of a player issue as much it is a coaching issue. Devlin’s seat is warming up. I want the the Lions Assistant OLine Coach Steve Oliver. He’s worked with Hank Fraley for 3 years now. I would also at this point want Hank Fraley as the OC next year.
