There is a distinction between "passing game specialist" and "pass game co-ordinator"

Happy to see that Gase is the former, which means less authority over the pass game. Gase will chip in ideas and concepts but this implies MM is firmly in control of the pass game and the offense.

Gase is an interesting hire...before his HC gigs with Miami and the Jets, Adam was OC with the Bears and the Donks...after McD probably leaves us after one season, maybe the Bolts are thinking of grooming Gase to move right into OC, mostly preserving the McD offense...

I once laughed at the idea of Shane being elevated from QB coach to OC … then I did a cursory search and discovered it’s a quite common event. Color me embarrassed at that time. Witness Gase himself.

I think it's an easy way to gauge if he might fit as OC in the future...see how well he gets along with the rest of the staff, see how well he buys into McD's offense...a longshot, sure, but a lot of teams like to hire someone they know rather than an unknown quantity...
