I really hate that idea. It's more than bad enough now. Personally I think the league should decrease the games to 14 and increase the bye weeks. The players would be healthier, and the quality of play would be higher. I recognize that this will never happen, but that's what I think it should be, and going to 18 games is outrageous.

It was 14 games 61-77, 12 games before that and 16 games from 1978-2020.

They’ve destroyed the record books due to their greed of adding more games. How can you compare 12-16 game records to 17?

Maybe back to 16 games would be fine. Add another bye week (for a total of 2), with one of the byes be used for teams prior to a TNF (so essentially a mini bye before TNF), and voila we’re good. Unfortunately, NFL owners chase short term profit at the cost of long term gains. No one wants to watch a game where teams are too injured, especially to the stars, to put up quality play.
