I don't think they are either. I think this is a case of writers who need something to write about, they see KA & MW are gone and assume the Chargers need receivers. But they don't know the team.Originally posted by sonorajim View PostI don't believe we're specifically looking for a WR.

Tee Higgins is going to play this season in Cincy on the franchise tag. If he has a 1k/7+ TD season in 2024, could the Chargers afford to sign him in 2025? The Bengals aren't going to, they have to sign J. Chase.

My apologies to Jason Reed if he is a member of this forum. I suspect he is, or he reads it, because on multiple occasions posts I have made have turned into articles by him on Bolt Beat. Anyway, as soon as I read that Brandon Aiyuk had asked the 49ers for a trade, I knew there would be people clamoring for the Chargers to trade for him, and this Jason Reed character didn't disappoint.
But I don't see it as a viable move for the Chargers. They would have to give up a high draft pick, plus pay him a boatload of money. The past two seasons, Aiyuk has 153 catches for 2357 yds and has caught 15 TD passes. Aiyuk is a good route runner, but he's not fast. I believe we already have a Brandon Aiyuk like WR in Josh Palmer. Palmer has not gotten the targets Aiyuk has. If he did I think he is capable of producing Aiyuk-like production. Palmer has the same speed, and he is physical. He's a few inches taller and 10 lbs heavier than Aiyuk.
I don't see the wisdom of surrendering draft picks then paying Aiyuk a boatload of green to have him take targets away from a guy who IMO is his equal already on the roster.

#1 Chargers brass values draft picks. We're not giving up a 1st for Aiyuk.Originally posted by Velo View PostMy apologies to Jason Reed if he is a member of this forum. #2 We're not paying Aiyuk $30M/yr which is what he's seeking. He turned down $24M/yr AFTER he saw what the top WRs got.
#3 I believe the Chargers are taking a look at what we have first. Potential is there. If it doesn't work out we may spend on a 1st rounder or
one of the top vets, next year, not this year.
So you're assessment is correct unless the Chargers lose their mind.
