His tool set is vastly better than Stick's. With Herb as the unquestioned starter, this could be the right un-pressured environment for Trey Lance to get some things figured out.
Actual result? Beat out by a street FA named Grier.who played for 6 teams (two Cowboys stints so only counted them once). . Chargers were one of the 6!Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

IMO, Hortiz and his staff see something in Trey Lance that's addressable, and they're going to take a shot at it.
Not especially likely that anything comes from it, but unless Trey Lance drives his car onto the practice field and starts doing doughnuts, nobody is going to get hurt, either.

Hardly a good enough look to say he didn't look good last season.
Lance has youth on Heinicke, that's about it it.
At least we can say Hortiz doesn't keep running Stick back out as the backup like Telesco..Hortiz told Johnboy .....I don't give a shit if you personally scouted him, he sux!
I’d take either over Stick, we can agree on that.“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

A lot of mocks had the Chargers taking a QB in Rounds 6 or 7. So, a project
Trey Lance costs more - but he is probably a bit further ahead than one of those types in the draft
low risk - very low. Probably won't cost more than $2m - IF he makes the roster
The bar has been pretty low for 3rd string QB lately

Lance has had a rough go in the NFL. He has physical gifts that have not materialized on the field. We’ll see - sometimes it eventually comes together, more often it doesn’t. Not a huge risk to sign a guy without giving up anything, pending of course what we found out that his contract actually says in terms of guarantee (any?) vs “possible” (won’t happen) money.
I do not expect a $6M guarantee. Actual terms can change everyone’s opinion of the signing quickly, can’t wait to find out“Less is more? NO NO NO - MORE is MORE!”

If you want to stop defenses from crashing the LOS and beating your backup to a pulp with embarrassing disrespect, you need a backup that can throw a 15 yard out at least. Neither of them could throw a basic mid-yardage out pass against NFL DBs.

Agree with all of that. He posted a bad QB rating, we’ll see how they both perform in camp and PS. I’m not betting on either, you can go all in on Heinicke. Good luck!
