If they had parted ways with Stick before the final 53 man roster or even the week before the season started after they had secured Heinicke, then they could've saved about 1.21 mil on the cap at that time...now they save nothing by releasing him because his remaining salary just gets added to the dead cap pool, the only thing they gain by releasing him now is the roster spot...so in my opinion it's still worth releasing him now and putting him on the PS, #1 nobody will pick him up off waivers, #2 Justin still gets his buddy in the film room, #3 Stick won't lose a dime in salary, #4 the team can gain a spot on the 53 man, and #5 the team would still have an emergency number three QB...

will it happen tho? IDK, something tells me Stick is safe on the roster in 2024, he has a powerful advocate in the front office that recruited him personally so I don't think he's going to be cut...
    Dang.
Can't win them all I guess.
Maybe Herbert has been hanging with Stick to much 😉
Just release for principal jk well like you said for the roster spot at least.

Yep...after this season is all over, the Bolts will most probably quietly release Stick and a few other players..."We'd like to thank Easton for his contribution to the Chargers over the years, and wish him well in the future."

Don't have to release him, his contract will expire....with many others that have a one year deal.

          What about Mack.
Lost of guys showing up that are on the one year deals or last year of contract.
The DT also?Didn't see the game so don't know who stood out.
It just dawned on me the Hortiz comp pick stockpile model is to let some of these guys sign elsewhere

Yea, it looks like he's carrying over Baltimore's strategy of stocking up on comp picks. In 2-3 years if the team drafts well the depth on the team should be really strong with the extra picks.

that allows him either to take 3 or 4 late comp picks, given late round hit rate is 25%, or use them to trade up in rounds like he did for Ladd. But it means some of the 1 year guys just walk. I agree when looking for exceptions to his rule, JK is near the top of the list as of now. Way too early to predict, but I was thrilled with the signing as I remembered him at OSU - he's the best RB talent we have had on the team in a long time.

Edwards remains a steady but unremarkable big back. Hope we get some glimpses of Vidal this year - he's been inactive every week and I expect that continues for awhile.

I think Vidal has a good future but I think Haskins will be the one to take some carries in the rotation first and he fits the big power back mold similar to Edwards.

Edwards has not put up great numbers and is never going to be the threat Dobbins is. His carries are pounding the defense and softening them up, which does make Dobbins more effective as the game goes on. I suspect we won't see much of Vidal this year, barring injury.

Kristian Fulton has been a great addition to the team. Can hardly remember the JC Jackson headache. We have an excellent GM now.

Yep...Trader Joe and DeCosta did it year after year, and stockpiled a ton of comp picks that way...my philosophy is, sign your priority players long term (QB, O-line, D-line)...but there's usually a glut of RB's, WR's, even corners and safeties...let the OTHER teams pay bank bucks for those big contracts and we get a higher comp pick...

Haskins was active, Vidal was not. I'm ok throwing Haskins into the mix.

How many guys are on a one year deal?
