We’ll see, this is a tough roster to crack with all those experienced FAs and 9 draft picks to compete against.
I think Raheim Sanders has a good chance of making the final 53. Additionally, and this is the key part, I can see him actually contributing to the team in a meaningful way during the regular season. I was very confident that the last two fan favorites during preseason, Luis Perez and Elijah Dotson, wouldn't make the team or wouldn't last long if they did make it to the final 53. Perez didn't even make the team last year, and Dotson saw little action before getting sent to the practice squad in 2023. Dotson signed to the Falcons practice squad late last season, after we cut him in August.

Sanders is different, though. I was surprised he wasn't drafted. He was quite a tandem with LaNorris Sellers for South Carolina last season. I'm excited to see what he can do.

Agreed. Matlock has worked hard his two years to make it in the NFL and good for him. Appreciate the effort

But looking forward to seeing a more true FB on the roster. Maybe the best person win

And agree that Matlock can always be on the PS or some other team might give him up. I think he has a home in the NFL. Just might not be with the Chargers -- which is a good thing if the roster improves

Challenging the big assumption - maybe he’s TOO BIG to be an effective FB? How many 300 lb FBs are there in the league? Safe to guess = 0?

Justin Herbert is Elite. Ride or Die ...

Everyone just assumes Matlock is peaked out...

That was his first year at FB, while still keeping a foot in the DLine room...

Who is to say he doesnt make a leap?

I think he is in, one way or the other...Dline, fullback, special teams...a multi versatile backup covering 2 roster spots with one body...

If he gets beat soundly, so be it...if its close? Scotty gets the nod...if Klotz doesnt shit the bed, it may be Fisk out the door...

Agree. Matlock has got a lot of heart and “want it” in him. He won’t just slink away without a fight.

Fisk missed a lot of blocks for a guy who’s carrying card is he isn’t a receiver but can block too.

We don’t even know if Klotz can block NFL players like he did at ISU. It’ll be fun to find out, fingers crossed.

                  Slater, Alt, Mack, Derwin.
It's a little early to judge some of the young guys... Slater and Alt.
And then, we had really good years out of Molden and Henly.
If there were a rookie I had to place a bet on... it would be Hampton. But let me curb my enthusiasm... at least until he gets 1 NFL snap.

I pose a counter-question: How many "great" players do you need on a team in order to win a Super Bowl...?
Because I don't really care about anything else.

The Chargers have enough bodies on the interior so that bringing someone in from the practice squad makes more sense.

Maybe Fisk, maybe Matlock ... if Klotz comes on. I can't help feeling Matlock is just another Telesco misfire and should be treated as such.

Matlock is like the QJ of fullbacks...we're hoping he makes a leap, but based on past performance, not so sure it will happen...

                          Several points to ponder:

                          (1) We're starting with the premise that Super Bowls are not won without great players, although in theory it's probably technically possible. lol

                          (2) If you have 5 great players, but they are your two safeties, your two guards, and your punter... Well, that's very different from your 5 great players being your QB, RB, DE, DT and WR. So it's less about HOW MANY great players, and more about the impact of the positions they play.

                          (3) Trent Dilfer proved that you can win a Super Bowl with a marginal QB.

Bottom line, I think the question of How Many Great Players on a Team Does It Take to Win a Title? is a bogus question, in the same way that How Many Wives Does It Take To Make a Man Happy? is a bogus question. And that's because there's no way of answering the question that you can't find multiple, obvious exceptions to.
