Same same same. Dobbins is the only RB with any juice. Haskins plays about 68 percent of ST snaps, that may be why the activate him instead of Vidal. But Haskins doesn't bring anything to the running game either. They could've signed Hunt as well instead of Haskins, I kinda thought they might sign Hunt after the draft.

Hortiz had tunnel vision for Ravens, Panthers and Titans. Missed Hunt

Foolishly or what not, I am all in and sold on Jim Harbaugh and Hortiz whom I think objectively speaking, I will need to give up to 3 years and if they both should shat the bed, I must consider bowing out. I don't need to see an SB win immediately by then, although it would be an absolute dream come true, but to see a vaunted team which week in and week out garners the respect of the opponents, teams like the Ravens and the Steelers; yes for sure those teams also suffer from "brain farts" as we have witnessed but they are the kind of teams not to be trifled with which also happen to be perennial PO contenders (perhaps not both all at the same time, but you get the idea).

The 2-0 start and the way in which they beat up on the Raiders and the Panthers gave us the fans and perhaps the team itself, too much irrational exuberance and tunnel vision! At this current level of 2-2, those of us who should be objective must know we are exactly who we are and I suspect that the coaches / FO secretly agree with this sentiment. Hopefully there is a long term plan to scout, acquire and cultivate talent and to restore health and confidence to Justin Herbert. I just don't see the FO to be able to acquire much needed high caliber WR-1, TE, C & IOL in just 2025 because our D will be losing guys due to the yearly attrition.

In closing, personally I would advise myself not to get too carried away with this 2024 Chargers and also not to give up on the team as a whole. There are currently some young and potentially very good football players on the Chargers and then there are some 2nd and 3rd rate below average guys specially on the O. Let us just take a couple of step back and remain objective about these 2024 Chargers without being way over the top cynical.
This team is still lacking solid depth. Hortiz has done a good job on improving the depth but there is still work to be done especially on the o-line. With the cap situation, it's unrealistic to think they would have it all fixed in one year. Next year they should have the cap space to continue to work on the oline.
          ADOPTED BOLT: Quentin Johnson

          Season: WK1
          REC: 5
          YARDS: 79
          TDs: 2

Time to put my money where my mouth is: Hampton will be better than Jeanty!

Hopefully the bye gives Herbert time to recover.
If Slater and Alt can return as well they should be able to get the win vs Denver.

Only an Herby on his two feet is enough to beat DEN.

Having a run game is great. Necessary. But you cannot be one dimensional in this league. It's not like Michigan where you can be bigger and stronger than everybody else. Everybody is big and strong in the NFL....if they decide to stop the run they can. The other teams are stopping our run now, cause they know its pretty much all we can do.

Until the passing game improves...and I am not sure how...the games will continue to be similar to what we are seeing lately IMO.

Chargers have 5 scoreless quarters out of the last 8.

Something is seriously wrong with this offense. Defense has been outstanding considering the time of possession the offense has been burdening it with.

If you want to blame the miserable offense on injuries then Hortiz has been a failure at building depth. As an example, Mustipher doesn’t belong in the NFL.

If Herbert’s ankle and OT’s heal, the passing game will improve. But as long as he is hobbled and slugs like Mustipher are playing the result will be the same.

The last two games, Heineke should have played as the offense needs a mobile scrambling QB as long as the OT’s are sidelined.

The KC loss was due to bad coaching decisions, starting with playing Herbert.

The team wasn't winning vs Steelers or Chiefs with Heinicke at QB. Both those teams have good defenses. Heineke was sack 3 times in 2 drives and went Punt, Punt. 50% Herbert is better than 100% Heineke. To get better at running it, they need to keep running it. They have to improve on 3rd down and keep drives alive. This is where Ladd and Herbert have to start finding connection. They throw in back of end zone for the TD was a sign to me of better things to come. The bye is much needed. The #1 rank in points allowed is nice. The 17 allowed to KC is a sign that it wasn't a fluke vs the lesser teams in games 1-3. These 4 games were like JH10 pre season action. There are tons of new faces on offensive side. They should get better with more reps together.

How are we suddenly forgetting about the absolute shit sandwich Hortiz & Harbaugh were handed? This was a team that had guys like Kenneth Murray, Josh Kelley, Will Clapp, & Alex Erickson playing meaningful minutes. For depth, they had guys like JT Woods, Tre McKitty (edit: at least at the beginning) & Isaiah Spiller taking up valuable roster spots & contributing nothing. Have we also conveniently forgotten about the cap hell they were in merely months ago? Hortiz HAD to make a lot of tough decisions in order get this ship headed in the right direction. By trading Keenan, he was able to sign 10 bargain basement free agents for $1-2 million each. Roughly half of them are working out decently. That’s actually damn good considering how cheap they were. He was able to finally secure a real backup QB, after 5 years of the previous GM pretending that Stick would suffice. As for the injuries, how many cash strapped teams are capable of surviving when BOTH their starting OTs go down?? Those guys were going to be the foundational pillars for what this team was going to do. How many viable replacement OTs can be found on the free agent market for $1-2 million? And BTW Mustipher was actually surprisingly decent for Baltimore last year. They took a shot - it may or may not work out, but that is all they can afford right now. The score vs the defending Super Bowl champions was 10-13 going into the 4th quarter, despite missing 4 star players.

I really, really like Alt but it's looking like it would have been more prudent to build the OL from the inside out. The pressure up the middle is obscene, and has been a consistent factor in EVERY game this year so far. There are certain things you can do to scheme against edge guys but pressure up the gut instantly into the QB's face is nearly insurmountable, forces your RB to stay in and try to pick up the right guy and eliminates the possibility of your QB at least stepping up into the pocket to evade the edge rush. Yes, we can and likely will address it next year, but it might be what ends up wasting Harbaugh's first year instead of what possibly could have been a nice playoff appearance to get some valuable experience under their belts, maybe even Herbert's first playoff win.

When you couple that with what will also likely be Roman's departure at some point (1 year? 2? 3?), you can start to understand some of the frustration some of us are showing. This was an absolute lights out, amazing off season in almost every aspect. Super stoked to have Jim as our HC. But sometimes one bad decision can really cause a failure to launch, and I think that's what we're seeing here. In the back of my mind I'm also nervous that Harbaugh may not want to extend after his 5 year contract is up, so every freaking year counts!

Like QuiteFrankly said...how the heck does this passing game get better as the year goes on? So many holes in the IOL and lack of true weapons...it's almost like we just have to limp through this year with the major goal being not getting Herbert killed or his love for football diminished.
