Yes, part of Herbert philosophy is to give players 24 hours to recover after practice so as the week progresses the practice times will start later.

You don't want to be caught on top in a thunder storm and its natural to try and rush down.

I guessed it was put up by the CCC in the 30s - who did an excellent job - and nothing else has been affected since,

      And I was right
The Sierras are a dangerous place to be during a thunderstorm... especially in a place that is covered in giant granite slabs (like half dome). The water rushes off of those slabs in torrents of water. If the granite has been polished by wind, water, or the treads of hiker's boots (as is the case on that part of half dome)... those slabs become very slick. I can't imagine how terrifying that must have been to be caught on those cables during a downpour... I've been up/down those cables 3 times before.

      Protect the QB
      Run the ball
      Play great defense

BTW... if you are planning on doing any hiking/bouldering in the High Sierras, have a good pair of hiking boots (with good tread). I don't know if she was wearing the same type of shoes (shown in her picture)... that day. But running/cross-trainers won't be safe on granite slabs and/or the streams.

Also, keep an eye on the sky. The Sierras have their own weather patterns. Nearly every afternoon, there will be a fast-forming downpour (thunder and lightning)... especially above 8,000 feet.

Somehow, some of you interpreted, "We'll run the ball better and protect the QB" as "We need to draft Malik Nabers @#5"... even after nearly everyone on the coaching staff said we were going to be "O-line Centric". If you want to be "more accurate" you should probably stop being so "interpretive".

Jim likes the WR group. I'll take him at his word. He said we'd find WR in the draft and in free agency... there was no need to interpret.
Why would Harbaugh say that he doesn't like the wide outs at this time?
He's an upbeat kind of guy who motivates players.

Does he privately think its a top half NFL receiving corp? I doubt it.

Its probably much closer to a bottom third group; most people consider it as such.

If guys can't get open, its hard to protect the QB if defensive coordinators keep on sending more people because your receiving corp can be singled up.

I'm fine with Alt instead of Nabers; but I don't have to pretend that the receiving corp isn't a big question mark.

I hate to take this even more off-topic, but I had a great time living in Yosemite in the mid '70s after high school. I was a cook at the Ahwahnee Hotel, my older sis was just getting started in her park service career and her boyfriend was a rock climber. His name was Theo and he was like a big brother to me. He got me into bouldering. I never got into climbing the way he did, he was doing some of the major climbs in Yosemite. El Cap, Manure Pile, Royal Arches, Cathedral Peak. My younger sis worked in the park for summer 1976 between graduating high school and starting at USC. All four of us were in the park that summer. I have such great memories. My younger sis unfortunately died suddenly six years later. My older sis married someone else but Theo remained my lifetime friend. He sadly died two years ago from a brain tumor.

I'm not really worried about it.
I'm a Palmer fan, and I think QJ will be much better and I believe McConkey with his speed and route running will have success as a rookie.

Chark the one I'm not sure of but we'll see in preseason. I just don't think we will be that bad at WR and don't care what pundits say. We have a lot more speed anyways.

                And then people panic because of the threat of a lightning strike, exposed like that;
they can't patiently wind their way down the cable.

The cables were designed and constructed 100 years ago ... certainly there can be a better approach.
                It's not that complicated.

I'm not sure there should be a better way or any changes. The people that even make it to the base of the climb are fairly competent or at least physically able to do it. The Yosemite backcountry should remain a wilderness experience.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
                  Let’s win one for Mack.

I don't think it would be accurate to say Harbaugh doesn't value WRs. But I do think he believes he can win without having a superstar WR. I think he and Roman want to build a corps of quality WRs that is not reliant on a standout #1. This approach worked well for the Packers last season and the Chiefs have won consecutive Super Bowls with an average at best WR corps, after trading the best WR in the league. I think the WRs will be better than anybody is expecting.

We have a melding of the minds here. I like Palmer, I think there's a good chance QJ takes a big step forward and McConkey will be very good as a rookie. And this group of WRs will have more speed than Herbert has played with, and the speed won't just be attached to one-trick ponies like Guyton.

I also feel the two 7th round picks are much better than 7th round talents. I think there was so much WR talent in this draft that it caused both to fall that far. When I see 3rd day picks like Doubs and Wicks contributing for the Packers, I see both Rice and Johnson being capable of being as good. I don't know what to make of Chark. But I'd really like to see Rice and Johnson make the team, and watch Herbert pick defenses apart spreading throws around to a young no-name WR corps. I don't think they will carry 7 WR, assuming both Chark and DD make the roster. On the other hand, if Rice and Johnson have a good TC and standout in the preseason, they may force the issue. Since it's a brand new corps, it might not be a bad idea to carry an extra WR or two and give them snaps to see who stands out. Cornelius Johnson is 6-3, 211 lbs with 4.44 speed. He was not Mich's top WR target, Roman Wilson was. Johnson had 1103 yds receiving and 7 TDs his last two seasons at Michigan on an offense that didn't live by the pass. McConkey had 1240 yds receiving and 9 TDs his final two seasons at Georgia, with Bowers being the top target. I'd hate for Rice or Johnson to be cut during the roster cut down and be claimed off the waivers and become really good players for another team. They need to develop a new WR corps, and the way to do that is stock the WR room with talent, give them snaps, and see what develops.

The cables aren't the problem... and I see no better solution.
The wilderness is inherently dangerous... and beautiful at the same time.
It's what draws us to these special places.

Getting there is complicated... as well it should be.
Each time I've ascended Half Dome, it has become more crowded.
IMO, that makes it more dangerous than anything else.

                        100% agree.
I find the Eastern Sierras to be less crowded... and just as rewarding.
The Bishop Pass Trail was one of the most beautiful backpacking trips I've ever taken.
