Continuous upgrades. That’s how it should be. The GM should never sit back and admire his work and say it’s done.
Now, if you excuse me, I have some Charger memories to suppress.
    Let’s win one for Mack.

I don't disagree with you, but I think that-- if he's signed? It's a minor thing, not a major thing, at least as far as impact *this* season.

Hard to imagine Zack Johnson playing an NFL season when he's already played a UFL season. I have to think that any interest the Bolts have in him is as a developmental guy.

He's an upbeat kind of guy who motivates players.

Does he privately think its a top half NFL receiving corp? I doubt it.

Its probably much closer to a bottom third group; most people consider it as such.

If guys can't get open, its hard to protect the QB if defensive coordinators keep on sending more people because your receiving corp can be singled up.

I'm fine with Alt instead of Nabers; but I don't have to pretend that the receiving corp isn't a big question mark.
I don't blame you for thinking the WR corp is in the bottom third of the league.
But I don't think most people understand what this offense will look like.

Most of the time, we'll be in 21-personnel.
1 TE that is essentially an extra run blocker (Dissly) and 1 TE that can both run block and be a receiver (Hurst).
It's no coincidence that Dissly and Hurst were our first 2 FA pick-ups.
With pulling guards and tackles, this offense will create numbers problems for a defense in the run game.
LB's and safeties will inevitably need to fill gaps and help vs. our run game... especially with the OT's we now have.
There will be much more space for our WR's to operate... especially deep... without help over the top from a safety often times.
In that scenario... I very much like QJ's, Chark's, Palmer's, McConkey's chances vs single coverage.

If you compare that with what we ran on offense last year... it's completely different. Night and day.
Last year, WR's were bracketed by an ILB inside, a CB on the outside, and a safety over the top.
No wonder the WR's couldn't create space... the absence of a run game almost guaranteed that.

I care 0% about who our #1-5 WR's are... they will all feed in this offense. There will be no #1 WR. This offense doesn't need a #1 WR.
This offense only needs WR's with certain skillsets... and they all possess those certain (although different) skillsets.
And of course, JH has the arm to deliver the ball any place on the field.
These WR's, with this QB, and this run game... should scare the shit out of people. They just don't know it yet.
        Protect the QB
        Run the ball
        Play great defense

I understand it ... it's not rocket science.

And they'll be successful for the most part; but when the playoffs roll around the running game will get stuffed and then what will they do?

They'll flameout and then start looking for an upgrade.... which had been the direction of the Ravens and Harbaugh's 49ers.

If they blast everyone, they of course will be happy with what they have.

You make it seem like I'm asking that they put up escalators there .... and half dome in the summer isn't exactly a back country wilderness experience.

Of course there is a better way; the cables were put together 90 years ago: a comparitively poor country at the time, but in an era when there was some semblance of public spirit.
Physically competent young people are going to continue dying because we have better priorities on where to spend our money.

I suppose if the 30s and the CCC never happened, we'd just have 4 lane highways going into national parks and huge parking lots for barbecues and hanging out.

Saw a video of Dobbins speaking after practice. I like that guy. Seems like a good dude with a sense of humor, is happy to be here and thinks his bad luck of injuries is behind him and ready to have a great year.

Here is what one draft analyst had to say about Green Bay Packers undrafted free agent offensive lineman, Zack Johnson of NDSU.

Johnson is about as experienced of a rookie as you will see in today’s game. At NDSU he appeared in 54 games over his career, including 46 straight starts. What makes him so appealing is his versatility. Although listed as a guard on Packers.com, he was a second-team All-American at right tackle in 2018 and a first-team All-American at right guard in 2019.

In his most recent season of 2019, Johnson would record 77 knockdowns, or 6.4 per game, as NDSU rushed for a school-record 4,607 yards at 287.6 yards per game which was the fourth-best average in the FCS. On top of that, according to Pro Football Focus Johnson logged over 700 pass-blocking snaps over his final two seasons and gave up only three sacks during that span.

Listed at 6’6″ – 315 pounds, Johnson has great size and although he may be considered a small-school prospect coming from NDSU, that program is a powerhouse that churns out NFL talent. Not to mention that having a four-time National Champion on the field in training camp is never a bad thing. RELATED STORY: Scouting Report on UDFA Frankie Griffin
For a closer look at Johnson’s game and what he brings to the Green Bay Packers, here is what Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network had to say in his final scouting report before the draft:
"“Career Snapshot: Three-year starter who earned Second Team FCS All-America honors as a right guard during his senior season in 2019. Earned First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors as a junior. Named Honorable Mention All-MVFC as a sophomore. Played right tackle before he moved to guard for his senior season.Positives: Hard-working and underrated small-school lineman who can be used at tackle or guard. Fundamentally sound, quickly gets his hands up and stays square. Strong at the point, blocks with a nasty attitude and attacks opponents. Blocks with proper pad level, keeps his head on a swivel and works well with linemates. Turns defenders from the action and completely engulfs them at the point.Negatives: Stiff and has scheme limitations. Not effective far from the line of scrimmage and lacks balance in motion.Analysis: Johnson is a tough, intelligent lineman with NFL size and some versatility. I could see Johnson as a backup guard or right tackle outside of a zone-blocking scheme at the next level.”"

Johnson looks to be a solid, experienced practice squad player with enough pro training to be functional in an emergency.
