The bottom line is this, for all the stars on defense. Staley was terrible and he hurt players performance. Good coordinators put their players (especially star players) in a position to excel. Staley put his players and stars in a position to minimize their talent. This shouldn't be a shock or surprise to anyone here on this forum.

Many of us have known this for a long time now, some of us more vocal than others. I wanted him cut or traded end of last season. He has a lot of defenders here, those who get excited when he gets a 10 yard sack. Then promptly gives the 10 yards back with an offsides or roughing the passer penalty. I'm thrilled to have the Harbaugh and Hortiz team, but they like others may have swallowed the Bosa Kool AidOriginally posted by Fouts2herbert View Post
I'm not trying to be an asshole but seriously, the days that I expected big things from Bosa are long gone in the past, at this point whatever we can get out of him is a bonus IMO, a very expensive bonus but yeah, my expectations for Joey are low this year, 5-6 total games 4-5 sacks or something like that...he'll flash like he always does but then his body will break down like it always does...it's fucking sad but that's my expectation, hope he has a better year but considering that the issues have already started and the season hasn't even started yet, it's really kind of depressing, I know I've been critical of Joey since the Jax playoff game but I genuinely feel bad for the guy...
I can't even imagine the mental toll of having a serious surgery right before the season when he was riding so high and so hopeful to play for Harbaugh...

Man, I am so in Bosa, I feel his pain. When he isn’t hurt, he is a BEAST!!! It’s just not a full season of it. It’s a tough sport, and modern medicine is better for Pros, than it is for us, I only hope, we can see what Bosa and Mack, can really be. And the backups can fill in to keep them fresh. I know we all can’t wait for game one. And it Raider week too! Fuckin let’s go

I'm not so sure they have.
IMO they did the best they could with the bloated contracts for aging and oft injured 'stars'. Williams and Allen are off the books, and Mack and Bosa took pay cuts (sort of). I believe Joey still had so much guaranteed money left on his contract (for 2024) that it made no sense to get rid of him, and with that kind of baggage, along with his injury issues, no other team would touch him. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong
.
2025 offseason will complete the H & H remake of the LA Chargers - Bosa will most definitely NOT be here . . . . . . .

[QUOTE=Lefty2SLO;n1773462]okay, buen punto. but if he goes out in the first two weeks we need to replace him pronto. we cannot afford to wait for him to "work through something" again. groin, hamstring, foot, toe and now hand. Thats a lemon law car return in any other field.Originally posted by Scharnhorst43 View Post

[QUOTE=Scharnhorst43;n1773482]Trader Joe has been churning that roster so we have pretty decent D-line depth...think of it...we even have Brash on the PS ready to be called up...we're in much better shape than years past...Originally posted by Lefty2SLO View Post

I'll trust Harbaugh and Hortiz's opinions on Bosa. They brought him back for a reason and it isn't because a few fans don't like him.Originally posted by Scharnhorst43 View Post

[QUOTE=Lefty2SLO;n1773462]I think it’s as simple as what the team has said. They value edge defense as a top premium. They know Edge >> WR if a tough decision is required. I am not sure that no team would touch him, but his value was likely discounted on the open market some or a lot, I just can’t guess. Old vets are usually discounted in trade value due to limited projected future #years.Originally posted by Scharnhorst43 View Post

Many here don't trust Harbaugh and Hortiz. If Bosa stays and produces, it would not surprise me to see a fire the both of them thread due to Bosa not being cut or moved. Some people have let their personal feelings override their common sense.Originally posted by richpjr View Post

The team can value edge all they want - if Joey's not on the field it's wasted money . . . . . . . . . . he has this year to prove he can be counted on so he can get that last big contract. I hope he comes through for us, but he's not off to a promising start . . . . . . . . ..
Agreed - no koolaid drinking going on at LAC . . . . . . . . . . we're high end whiskey drinkers now - feels good!

I just realized this insight!
Yes, Stick did showed regression in preseason, but given Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman recently came out and said they will have specific game plans for each Quarterback (Herbert, Heneike, Stick), it may have been plausible that JH on purpose had Stick play like Herbert in preseason. Play with Herbert's throwing style, motion, movements. Think like JH, "play" in his style NOT for the benefit of Stick, but for the benefit of the other 10 players who will be playing with Herbert! Give them practice with a Justin Herbert "look alike," and "play alike" so that when the season starts with Justin Herbert, they will have been used to Herbert's style in the NEW OFFENSE. Makes sense to me...what do you think?
Hence, they kept Stick knowing he will play well using HIS own style if he's ever needed.
If so, IT'S SMART COACHING. Sacrifice one dude's stats for the rest of the offense who will be working with the starter anyway. Hit the ground running.
Meanwhile, arm chair coaches like you and me were not understanding but rather critical of one man. Yet, there is a man with a greater plan.
