Hard to say. There were quite a few teams that viewed him as an elite G prospect going into the pros, but considering the state of our OL going into that year, they may have begrudgingly picked him even if he wasn't exactly in their ideal mold of a starting LT. Personally, I don't think they would have picked Slater that high and likely would have considered a stop-gap veteran option.

This draft (and off-season) should be Phase 3 of the re-build.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
Hortiz was involved with drafting Tyler Linderbaum though
(at least today, one can dream!)
Phase 3 should be about fixing the IOL. It could be 1 FA and 2 draft picks. It could be 2 FA's and 1 draft pick.
Having said that, I don't believe that he will forget about completing the IDL.
We're close... very close. Continue with BPA throughout the draft... and we'll have a complete roster.Protect the QB
Run the ball
Play great defense

Thats the area of concerns this offseason

Agree. OG, OC, Edge, IDL, LB, and TE are the positions I'm looking at.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

A TE like Spencer Hawes from the Bills would be nice to offset with OG
So between free agency and the draft, I think Hortiz should have a pretty good focus and plan as its pretty simple. Sure, if a good DB is there, you always take but I think Donte, Still and Hart are pretty good for one more year

No Thanks to Penning. I hope to upgrade the OL and keeping him isnt that. Salyer id keep for a swing. Pipkins has to go , get the comp. Injured often and is just mediocre. He is just a bad reminder our OL has sucked the past 7 years.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
If the $$ are right for Salyer - keeping him as a swing tackle
If the dollars are right for Penning -- keeping him as back up OG depth. Hart for the minimum, for sure as well.
Now the starting OC and RG -- work to be done. Tyler Linderbaum please!!
We nearly need a revamp of the whole OL , asside from Slayer and Alt....Zion. The rest, id like to see us do something similar to what the Bears did and also draft a couple OL. I mean if Pipkins wants to stay for vet minimum, ok but asside from that...C-Ya. Someone else can pay him more.

For Penning, I mean the vet minimum - I should have clarified. Strictly one of those signings for cheap depthOriginally posted by Boltjolt View Post

As for C and the two OGs - we are 100% in agreement. The Bears spent on those three players, an average of like $15m per player - Hortiz needs to do that for two of the three for sure

Pretty much 99% of his rookie Season? I think for the second half of his rookie season Henley was dealing with Staley's mental injuries. LOL!Originally posted by Xenos View Post
