Much better PFF than Hand
Even Hargrave has a better PFF
For the same dollars - sign him and if Hand has a decent markt, like 12/2 - would get another comp pick

And what is that in your opinion?Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
I think it is reasonable to have expected Hortiz to get serious after last year and leave nothing to chance on the o line and Herbert's protection this season. I am just seeing more dice rolling and hope.
As I always say...hope is not a business term
Let's see what Hortiz does and if he signs a decent guard before the draft
BTW while it might not be so on this posting board, my feelings about Hortiz's o line work so far are consistent with 80% of the fan base
Me: Slater contract, draft Alt big plusses. Becton- swing & miss. Andre James- meh C depth

Unfortunately for us trenchers... I believe that Cole Strange is our starting RG. $9m guaranteed is too much for a backup.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
The LG options are down to Wyatt Teller and not much else but crap like Chris Paul. Hortiz didn't even offer for Jenkins. When Teller signs elsewhere then what before the draft?
What am I not seeing? Remember I am seeking an upgrade at guard not just a body
After the draft, good linemen are not traded or released...unless you trade for another Deculus
However, this looks short-term... maybe just a year. So, I'm guessing a development draft pick... maybe someone who can play center/guard...?
I think the RG position will be drafted... maybe they go big if Vega or one of the Utah tackles are still there in the first round. Otherwise, it will probably be a 3rd round pick. IOL is pretty deep this draft.
I wanted a FA center and a FA guard. They just weren't the guys I was hoping for.
This is often the case... I'm getting used to it by now. Crossing my fingers... yet again.
Protect the QB
Run the ball
Play great defense

Robinson only had 2.5 sacks but had 31 pressures last season.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post

The entire guard position has a lot of nuance to it for us: Everyone is piling on Hortiz, but I guarantee he isn't operating in a vacuum here. If we take Harbaugh at his word that he is letting McDaniel be the HC of the offense than McD is having a ton of input on where to spend the money. They have a budget and have to prioritize what he feels is most important for his offense to succeed. His next shot at a HC coaching gig rests on him fixing the offensive mess left by Roman. We also don't know what he thinks about players. What if he looks at Strange and thinks he is another year removed from his injury, was playing better and better as the year went on and is good enough for what I need in this O? Should we doubt him? I"m not saying it's true or even that I agree with that approach but there is an awful lot of speculation about why we aren't going after certain players and there could be reasons why. In the end, McDaniel, Harbaugh and Hortiz are going to be judged by the results on the field.

Agree.....Hortiz did get some OL a we wanted. But signing Strange, Pipkins and Penning isnt what i had in mind. Biadasz is the only one i like.Originally posted by Boltnut View Post

I think Teller is the same age as the coveted ELgin Jenkins who is replacing him in Cleveland. And Teller has been to more pro bowls and more recently than Jenkins. He has at least 3 good years left. Sign him, Joe.Originally posted by Leslie Grossman View PostJudging on youth, foot speed, and upside Parham and Christensen seem best available to me, then Paul. Teller might be the guy for one year.
And while you are at it, buy us a DaShawn and an A'Shawn for the DlineLike, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.
