TE1 doesn't necessarily have to be a great blocker but it helps that they can block. Gates wasn't that good a blocker but more than made up for it with his recieving skills. We also had LT.
Maybe getting a better RB will offset that. I do want Dobbins back but we need a better RB to go with him.

That is my whole point, These guys are too carried away with blocking over receiving. The result is an anemic offense that is often totally ineffective and painful to watch.Originally posted by Velo View Post
Gates was Rivers the Chargers #1 WR for several seasons. But the Harbaugh/Roman method values blocking over receiving I think. I agree, upgrade at RB but keep Dobbins.

Roman had Mark Andrews in Balt and Vernon Davis in SF. I don't know about their blocking skills, but they are/were both really good receivers. Andrews was Lamar's #1 receiver for a couple of seasons when Roman was OC in Balt.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

They need to balance their thinking a bit for modern NFL. 10 great blockers ain’t taking Herbie anywhere.Originally posted by Velo View Post

I think it is very important in that scheme.

Agreed. I assume Andrews can hold his own in blocking, pretty solid big guy.Originally posted by Velo View Post

I am not suggesting a move TE who doesnt block for these guys, but there is a happy medium. TE is a deadly weapon for many of the better offenses. It shouldnt be a black hole void of talent for the sake of blocking.

Stone Smartt was never a TE until he entered the NFL. He was a QB in high school and a QB turned WR at Old Dominion. He's also undersized for a TE. He's the same weight as Laviska Shenault, the WR just signed to the PS. So he's never going to be more than barely competent as a blocker. He is showing he can be a receiver, he's definitely not afraid to go up and snag balls in traffic. Let's see if they can exploit him more in this capacity.

The ironic thing about this statement is that some predicted people would complain about this very thing - yet Harbaugh would win anyway.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post

He is winning the games he should win ona last place schedule but it does need to be pointed out he is 0-4 against the real playoff contender teams in the AFC he has played.Originally posted by richpjr View Post

Winning those games is where an effective offense comes inLast edited by CanadianBoltFan; 12-09-2024, 06:56 PM.

The Chargers just don't have the horses yet. It's pretty obvious that the plan was to build the defense first. They gutted the offense to pay for the defense. KA could have stayed but he chose to leave. I think some fans expectations are unrealistic. They really have one offensive weapon in Ladd. In spite of all is the more than likely will make the POs as a WC team which is a great achievement considering. All they need to do is get in the POs and anything can happen especially if they are mostly healthy.Originally posted by CanadianBoltFan View Post
