We do want to run the ball so we need some that can. You saw how bad we couldnt run at times with Becton, Bozeman and Zion....then add in Pipkins at RT who was awful at it, Salyer they said wasnt a good run blocker = no run game.Originally posted by Whydachargers? View Post
Yes, I am thinking more of Herbert with Paul. I admit it. Do we need every lineman to be great at run-blocking?

The LG options are down to Wyatt Teller and not much else but crap like Chris Paul. Hortiz didn't even offer for Jenkins. When Teller signs elsewhere then what before the draft?Originally posted by richpjr View Post
You make it sound like the only additions to the roster will be from our 5 draft picks. There is a long way to go before the roster is set.
What am I not seeing? Remember I am seeking an upgrade at guard not just a body
After the draft, good linemen are not traded or released...unless you trade for another Deculus

Slater's lateral agility could suffer a bit coming off the *****lar injury and surgery. That could make him a liability playing from the Tackle spot. At Guard not so much. And it might keep him healthy.Originally posted by Xenos View Post
Slater is staying at Tackle because that’s what McDaniel values in his scheme.

I would just be worried about both Zeitler and Boitonio retiring late in camp because they miss their families and just don't want to go through the grind one more time. Then we are stuck.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
I just went through the PFF grades for Paul, Bitonio, Glasgow, Teller and Zeitler
Paul and Glasgow are by far the worst
Zeitler is the best followed by Bitonio and Teller
Taking Zeitler off the list - think its Bitonio if he plays or Teller
Now for Zeitler, I would figure out how to give him tickets to fly home. Edgerring James used to fly home Sunday nights after games in AZ to go back to Miami and come back Wednesday for practice. Zeitler can skip Monday meetings if need
I'm desperate
Teller still think is a great add and Hoffman from Dallas is a decent swing G/C and he played with Biadasz during his Dallas days. He is not a superstar but good competition for us given the state of things. And he was a release. We add those two guys and Heatmiser feeling a lot better. Like Mr 101 degrees.Like, how am I a traitor? Your team are traitors.

Yes it appears Parham is a much better option in our system than Paul! Maybe we are looking at him, As of Today Teller and Parham seem to be our 2 best options that actually fit our system, better than even the top OG's that have already been signed.Originally posted by Bolt4Knob View Post
Dylan Parham was ranked 38/81 by PFF
much higher than Zion and on par with Teller
is he not a scheme fit for McD?
Yes, Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Dylan Parham is widely considered a highly athletic and versatile interior lineman. Known for his quickness, fluidity in zone-blocking schemes, and ability to play both guard spots and center, he brings significant agility to the offensive line.

Key details about Parham's athleticism include:- Background: Played linebacker and tight end in high school, possessing natural movement skills rare for his size.
- Athletic Testing: Recorded a fast 4.93-second 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine, along with good agility scores (7.78 3-cone).
- Versatility: Started all 50 games at Memphis across right guard, left guard, and right tackle, and has shown similar versatility in the NFL.
- Mobility: Excels at reaching the second level and adjusting to moving defenders, often relying on speed and technique rather than pure power.

Because RAS scores are meaningless. Worst measure of how good a player is ive ever seen.Originally posted by Xenos View Post
Paul is the worst because his run blocking is horrendous, but he has good pass protection grades. I just can’t figure out how someone with that RAS is that bad at run blocking.
Zeitler may not fit our scheme. And Bitonio is going to retire.

I think it is reasonable to have expected Hortiz to get serious after last year and leave nothing to chance on the o line and Herbert's protection this season. I am just seeing more dice rolling and hope.Originally posted by Riverwalk View Post
Nobody has said we don’t need quality guards unless you think there’s no middle ground between All Pro and Shitty.
Come on CBF. You’re always the voice of reason.
As I always say...hope is not a business term
Let's see what Hortiz does and if he signs a decent guard before the draft
BTW while it might not be so on this posting board, my feelings about Hortiz's o line work so far are consistent with 80% of the fan base

Judging on youth, foot speed, and upside Parham and Christensen seem best available to me, then Paul. Teller might be the guy for one year.
