We got somewhat lucky last season in that none of our WRs had any significant injuries that caused them to miss time. Can't count on that. Keenan is worth keeping for that reason alone

In regard to KA I see a world where if he is brought back, it won't be till after the draft. KA just leaves to many yards on the field.1) Cut Becton, Boz(ret), Dissly, DD, Fisk, and Dupree
2) Re-sign Tart, Hand (4m), Phillips (5m)
3) Sign the ERFA's Williams, Patterson, and Vidal (3m).
4) Sign free agents Cole Strange (OG-1.5 m), Whyatt Teller (OG-10m), Luke Fortner (OC-6.5m), Brunskill (OC-vet min) Leo Chenal (LB-5m), Rashid Shaheed (WR- 14m), Cade Otten (TE-8m) Greg Dulcich (TE-3m), K'Lavon Chaisson (ED 9m), Myers (DT-7.8m), Alec Ingold (FB-6m), Hendrickson (ED-25m), Seumalo (OG-9m), AVT (OG). Jenkins (OG- 12m)

I don't know. They didn't even dress Dissly several games when I'm pretty sure he was healthy.Originally posted by beachcomber View Postthink we're most likely to stick w/Dissly,
His lack of contribution and playing time really surprised me this past season. Just two starts. Suited up just 9 times. Only 97 yards in receptions.
He's not a playmaker like Gadsden. He's not a blocker like Fisk. And the biggest thing perhaps: he's just not a special athlete, which impacts both his play as tight end and in Special Teams. His salary isn't cheap for what seems like a JAG. $4 Mil Saved if we say goodbye.
I prefer the cap savings accrued with moving on. Expect the Chargers to do just that.
In '26 he'll be 9 years removed from his athletic peak...which was never much to begin with.

LAC needs two Mac Linebackers by my count. So even if Wax steps up, they need to acquire another quality Mac LB. I'm hopeful on Wax (instincts on run plays, thumping power, and contribution to chemistry seem electric) but my guess is that coaches still don't trust him in pass coverage.Originally posted by Chargers8491 View Postt's possible they may let him take Perryman's position next year and they may not need to sign a LBer.
That can take time to develop.Last edited by YAC; 02-22-2026, 11:34 PM.

I agree - need an upgrade at LB from Perryman. Just can't count on ColsonOriginally posted by YAC View Post

When 1st downs become unimportant, I'll feel a lot more comfortable about moving on from Keenan.Originally posted by jamrock View PostWe got somewhat lucky last season in that none of our WRs had any significant injuries that caused them to miss time. Disagree ... i think you are influenced by the perception of QJ from the years before. I saw a guy starting to track the ball and fight for it last year.Originally posted by Boltnut View Post
Yes... deep speed for McD's play-action. So far, QJ hasn't proven to be a deep threat. He can get deep... he just doesn't contest 50/50 balls or fight for deep sideline catches. KC has been good at contested catches. Even though he's not big... he does elevate well and make contested catches. He becomes our returner immediately... then gets more PT in 2027 once QJ is gone.
The oline and GRO were such train wrecks, they couldn't take advantage of it.

Get a wide reciever on day 3 ... not best use of a draft pick taking away from other receivers.
And just not getting the Denzel Boston love here.
Concepcion ... .lots to like, but again ... All Pro? No, he is not Dexter Lawrence.

I think TE is a higher priority so agree with you in terms of timing. Unless some other team comes up with a bunch of cash, the Chargers can wait this one out.Originally posted by Chargers8491 View PostIn regard to KA I see a world where if he is brought back, it won't be till after the draft. Could be even a late training camp signing, practice squad for a few weeks and elevated.

I think people forget there were quite a few better offenses in the NFL than the Chargers that get a lot more first downs than the Chargers....without Keenan Allen.Originally posted by Ghost of Quacksaw View Post

And if you think a little deeper...if some of those 3rd and Keenan throws went to Ladd, who also can get open quickly, those 3rd down targets could get maybe 16-17 yards or more, instead of the 6 or 7 yards Keenan usually gets on 3rd and 5.
Last years passing offense needed more explosion and more YAC, too much plodding down the field. If some of those 81 catches went to faster and better YAC receivers that might help that.
I am not saying signing Keenan later for depth is a bad thing, but rather that the offense will survive and maybe improve without him. He certainly should not lead the team in catches and targets anymore
